I have a new iphone 4s and have noticed problems when using a car charger or attempting to charge via USB. When I use the car charger it won't charge at all, I tried usb charging today and it worked, but when I attempted to charge via usb a couple of hours later it wouldnt work. Anybody else had these issues?????

    Same issue here...

The supplied white cube doesn't seem to work. Other chargers work perfectly though.

im having the same issue and i have been searching for a forum post for a while now and only jsut seen them start to appear.

when i plug mine in, it will display the "Plugged" symbol on the battery display but not actually charge. the battery will still decrease. then it will randomly "disconnect" and not register that it is plugged in. then appear to be plugged in, then not, then plugged in, then not.

This will repeat over and over again without actually charging and the charger being in the socket throughout.

however yesterday i left it plugged in and my battery was 9% and after the strange plug in behaviour i noticed it was charging normally after about 20 mins in the car.

But when i did the same journey time today, the battery wouldnt register at all....

No idea whats up with it...

    anybody else help????

There are car chargers and car chargers. Some might supply 2 or even more amps of charging current, some might supply 0.3 amps.  USB varies as well, older computers tending to supply less power.

Having the same problem even witht the charger & cable that came with the 4S as well as with an iPad charger, that certainly can provide plenty of power

The charging icon appears, the phone beeps as if its charging, but the charge percent just keeps dropping.

I have tried both powering off and doing a hard reset neither of which makes any difference.

The charger that came with my iPhone 4S also didn't work initially. After doing a hard reset on my iPhone 4S the charger now works.

However, I am still experiencing 1) not getting a full charge all the time while in the charger or plugged into my PC, 2) rapid battery drain when in use.

Just an observation:  doing something to your phone has no effect on the functioning of your charger.

This pretty much describes my problem. I've rarely (if ever) seen it actually display the charging indicator, but I do notice that sometimes it does gain a bit of charge on the "plugged in" indicator.

I've had the car charger issue too but also a extremely long charge time compared to my old 3g. Any thing on long charge times.

i'm haveing exactly the same issue.  Have had the the 4s since the day it was released.  Worked fine, charged in car, everywhere.  Beginning of January 2012 the issue that pyrothemonkey described started happening.  Went to apple store - "so sorry" - anyone have any luck yet?

Both my husband and I are going crazy over this whole charging issue. The first day we got our phones in mid January, one of our chargers stopped working. So we figure ok, no big deal we have another one (plus we were accustomed to this issue with our last batch of iphones). So we started using the other one and everything was fine for about a month, until the charger would stop charging and we would have to plug and unplug a few times, until finally it just completely started going haywire. We would plug our phones in and the lightning bolt would show up. Then when we would go back a few minutes later to check the phone, the "plugged in" icon was showing, but it just would NOT charge at all. The only way we could charge our phone is through our car chargers and im tired of going out my car and wasting gas just to charge my phone (which is quite often because the battery life is horrible!) Yesterday my husband had had enough with the situation and went to the apple store and they told us our chargers were fine but they would replace them anyway. So we got them home, plugged it in before bed and made sure that it was charging. When i woke up in the morning I had half a charge and the whole charging unit completely stopped working, the USB wont even register on the computer- nothing- dead. So then i moved on to the 2nd charger. It charged for a few minutes and then the "plugged in" icon appeared, but no charge once again. The only way i can charge it (as of right now because I'm sure something will happen to this charger too) is if it is plugged into my computer- which is annoying. I have seriously had it. All this money I pay for iphones and I cant even use it. I have a young child and its not easy to go outside and run my car just to charge my phone, it's absurd. Apple needs to seriously address their problems, admit that MANY MANY people have the same issues, and fix it!! O wow- as I am typing I just noticed that my USB cord crapped out. So much for thinking my phone is actually charging- I should be so lucky. So far since I've been an iPhone consumer, I think I've gone through 6 chargers total. What is going on? And I know it's not just my phone, because nothing works for my husband either. I'd LOVE some help.

After much searching online I found some information about needing a 2.1 amp charger.  The reasoning was that there is so much more on the new phones, the requirements for the charger also go up.  I got a new charger a couple of weeks ago and works like a charm.  Sure would be nice for Apple to tell us that.  Sure would be nice for Apple to inform there staff in the stores.

Have you seen that your iPhone consistently stays charged in the when using an 2.1 amp charger? After reading your messagse last night I plugged my iPhone 4S into an iPad charger, but it is still discharging while plugged in.

What brand of charger did you get?

It is aggrevating to be heading out the door for a long day, only to see that my iPhone 4S has only charged to 92%.

Just to be clear, the charger i needed was for my car. The 2.1 amp works great.  Charges from 10% to almost full in a 30 minute drive.  Prior to getting this one, i was having the issue of discharging while plugged in.  No problems what so ever now.  Have not had any problem using my charger in the house that came with the phone, or the one that came with my iPhone 3. As long as the cord is okay, I've had no problems.

    I ordered the charger through Amazon.   Skiva PowerFlow 2.1Amp / 10Watt (Fast) Car Charger for iPhone 4S 4 3GS, iPad 2, iPhone, iPad, & iPod - $25
