I just received my new iphone 4s and would like to know how to use my old phone the 3G as an ipod.
Do you know how I can change the device name? I would like to put my daughter's name on it. It has the same device name and phone number as my new iphone.
On the summary page on your computer's iTunes, with the device connected, click on the phone's name to "highlight" it and change the name.
Ok, I have done that. Used the old sim card that was activated and used the sim card out of my current phone. In Itunes the phone shows up but gives me no options. On the phone it still says I need to plug into Itunes and only gives the emergency call option.
That's it, I can't get anything else, I have tried all combinations of reset, sim, no sim, on, off, standing on my head. I am sure it's something little that is going to make me feel pretty stupid when I figure it out. Any help would be appreciated.
umm, what have you done when you say "Ok, I have done that". Did you follow the instructions here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3406
Yes, I did that. With the old sim card that was an active phone and with the sim card that is my phone now. Both give me the same results.
Thanks for the quick reply, Lawrence.
With the SIM in the phone connect to iTunes and click the Restore button.
