Q: *Important--iPhone4s Static/Crackling Noise

All,

There seems to be an increasing number of complaints coming in of iPhone 4s static/crackling noise coming from the phone when placing calls.  I personally had the same problem on an iPhone received 10/14.  Replacement devices seem to be having similar problems.  Here are the following symptoms:

-Very intrusive and abnormal crackling/static noise can be heard through the ear piece while on a call. More obvious in a quiet room.

-When call ends, the sound can STILL be heard coming from the back of the phone. Which means the source of the noise may be coming from there?

-Atleast one person noted that the noise can be stopped by shorting out the signal by placing hand over two top antenna bands forcing a "switch".

-Replacement devices are having same symptoms.

Is anyone NOT having the the symptoms described on the new iPhone4S?

iPhone 4, iOS 5

Just a follow-up; looks like I spoke too soon. The crackling sound returned a week after I tried the "cleaning the SIM card fix". The strange thing is that it did work well for a while and now is still working but with occasional static. Again, I have an iPhone 4 so maybe this is different than the 4S issue but unfortunately it continues to be a problem.

I had same problem from 3 days i came home and i just clean my iphone earpiece with tooth brush and now its working fine. Try this method and let me know whether its my luck or it really works.. And after that just make your volume level full and decrease by 3 bar and try it.

I have had no such problems on my 4s. The phone was given to me by my son, who got it new when it came out about a year ago. I had to put a new SIM card in but calls are fine.

No clue why you would post saying how your phone isn't affected.  That gives others no help at all and is really pointless.  There is a major problem with a lot of these phones, so your comment is just idiotic to me...

I replied because an original post ASKED if there was anyone who didn't have the problem. So sorry for offending you.

please see thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3393647?start=915&tstart=0, it lists a similar issue (no solution though)

Replace the metal SIM card bracket with plastic brackets and everything is OK. Why?

Because the pins of the SIM card touch the metal bracket, and therefore there is contact - a short circuit. Because it creates Static / Crackling Noise.

Today I've cut the SIM card into Micro, but I was still a little cut, so there is no contact with the metal bracket. Doing everything without problems. In the original micro SIM card (can see) contacts touch metal bracket and then creates a Static / Crackling Noise.

For me it's all right now. No More Static / Crackling noise and the sound is immaculate and clean.

    Nice greetings from Croatian!

    Well Hi there,

Even if its 2016 and the 4S seems pretty old, softwarewise its still up to date and thats why ive got myself one and it actually have the very same issue!

So i just wanted to find out how that comes.

The first thing i can tell you, it seems like not every model of the 4S is affected, ive got a MD235D/A and it definetely is!

However there are quite a few different models of the 4S and all of them got slightly different components on their logicboards!

So as it just seems some logicboard models got components that causes noise emission of the voltage regulator inductors!

I dont know if theres another PMIC that switches harder, worse capacitors oder just inductors made of "noisy" ferrite..?

But we do know now that the only solution is getting another iPhone Model and that the noise is emitted by the switching regulator inductors and its completely harmless!
