sync fails to start

same problem with my 3Gs. this is a new thing after d/l of iOS 5. what's up? help.

So now its working for you all of a sudden?? I downloaded iOS 5 yesterday and today it won't sync. Hopefully it will resolve itself like it did for you. You didn't do a restore?

Same here, on Mac OS 10.6.8 and iPhone 4 with iOS 5, updated a few days ago. It's worked fine until this morning. I have no particular need to sync today, so I'll wait to do a restore.

Update: Working now. Unplugged/plugged in a few times. Go figure.

I read another post somewhere that the sync will work fine if you follow this sequence: open iTunes, connect your device via USB, then sync. I have iTunes set to open once it detects my iPhone is connected. But it won't let me sync. If I first open iTunes, then connect my phone it syncs without a problem. Maybe a glitch with iTunes 10.5?

There seem to be lots of problems with syncing lately related to iOS5 and/or iTunes 10.5. If enough of us report our problems to Apple, hopefully they'll attend to the issues soon:

ncbchbum23's solution only partially works for me I have audio books and music that simply don't transfer they show up in pale gray with an x next to them. This is a horrible release.

Works for me. I discovered that I could simply close iTunes if I go the message and re-open it to have sync work fine.
