Text/iMessage alert tone problem since ios5 update

Since I updated my 3gs to ios5 last week, when I recieve a text message or iMessage, the tone 'stutters' before playing. At first it was quite funny, after I had switched the handset off and on again, it stopped doing it for a few hours, but then started again. It's now quite annoying. Has anyone else had the same issue or can advise me on what to do to fix it? Many thanks in advance 🙂

My phone is doing exactly the same thing. At first, my friends found it hilarious as my phone sounds like its just having a full on fit when i recieve a message. Each time is different though and the sound is not constant what so ever.

This is definetely a software issue as my phone never did this on the old ios4 firmware, but as soon as i updated to ios5, it started doing it.

Hopefully it will be get sorted in the next update, but to be fair ios5 is doing nothing for my phone apart from slowed it right down, unreliability and unstability so i may be going back to ios4 if it doesnt get sorted.

Ok, I think I fixed it on my iPhone 4S. Under notifications for messages, email, & phone, I turned off the "view in lock screen" option and it seemed to fix it. I sent myself text messages with the option on & off. With it on the stuttering happened and with it off, no problem. Good luck!

This worked for a Verizon iPhone 4S as well. As soon as I disabled "View in lock Screen" for messages the stuttering sound went away. I tested the phone and turning it back on caused the stuttering to happen again. So what I did is disable "View in Lock Screen", then I restarted the phone, then I turned the "View in Lock Screen" back on. There is no stuttering at the moment and I am able to again see messages in the lock screen. I've only been testing this for a day so not sure if it's a permanent fix.

Hey guys

My girlfriend has this issue as well and so I was working with it in the past few weeks

I finally spotted out what the problem is!

Just go to the app WinterBoard and turn off the SummerBoard Mode

Then everything is gonna be fixed!

Two iPhones are tested to be fixed with this approach

Try it and I would like to hear some more feedback

Thanks.

I been playing about with this, now when I get a text message, i get the alert tone around SIX times in succession (stuttering style)

So I went to notifications, opened up the messages, and disabled everything!

Notification Center: off

Alert style: banner

Badge app icon: off

show preview: off

repeat alert: off

view in lock screen: off

Now when I get a text i get just ONE alert (correct). So it seems that something is triggering the message alert tone and its nothing to do with the messages notifications!

I too have this issue and like many others on here have seen many different work around's for it.

The question is though, why, why, why should we the consumer who spend our hard earned buck's on the iPhone put up with these problems?

Folks this is not by any means a cheap product it is in essence supposed to be the Ferrari of phones and ifyou had a problem with one of those, this kind of discussion would not be happening it would be fixed pronto.

The iPhone 4 had to have a cover to make it work and now we have the all singing all dancing iPhone 4s that lets face it has a plethora of problems and you have to disable most of it to get it to function.

All I can say is folks do not give up complaining. It's about time Apple sorted themselves out and stopped letting the consumer find fixes for their problems, who, lets face it, pays their wages. Oversights are one thing but when something effects your lifestyle that's another.

I have become seriously disillusioned by the iPhone so much so that almost certainly I will be looking elsewhere shortly.

i agree, you know i bought the iphone 4s because of this issue and i had that notion that the problem was in my iphone 4 but unfortunately i was mistaken, the problem was the os we dont want the ios 5 really we only in need to a sold, secure , reliable software. alot of bugs in the ios5 should be taken in real consideration from apple. i really wish to return back to the ios4 😟
