I have the blinking question mark on start up.
I tried:
Resetting PRAM
safe mode
holding option when starting up
holding command s on start up
command prompt
Finally I tried booting from install dvd. I did get the apple logo but then the black screen appeared and told me to restart. I restarted but nothing happens. It goes back to grey screen with blinking question mark.
Is there anything else I can do? Thanks.

Thanks. I already have an appt at the genius bar, just wanted to see if there is anything else I can do. Do you know how much it would cost to fix? Would trying it as a target disk mode work?
I have no idea what's wrong. Could be as simple as a bad memory module or could be an entire motherboard. They will give you an estimate.
You need to re install OSX. If you have the dmg file downloaded via torrentz this is how you can create a bootable external HD or Flash drive (8 GB+)
