syncdefaultsd wants to use the login keychain

I have no real help for you, but wanted to let you know that you're not alone. I've been getting this exactly as you describe and have found no help online so far. Thanks for posting.

I Agree you're not alone. I upgraded from Leopard to Snow Leopard to Lion 10.7.2 in the course of 2 days and have been seeing these ever since. This AM when I got up the fans were blowing full speed on a closed, sleeping MacBook Pro and continued until I answered the dialog box.

I've had this just occur and instead of cancelling or accepting i googled it. Worryingly while I had the enter password window open, I couldnt open this page from google. Once i cancelled it I could open this page no problem.

Several other things have randomly asked for access to the keychain.

it popped up just as I was reading your reply, no 'always' choice for me either.

Same exact thing here too. No joy on an answer.

And same thing here. Even when I enter a password nothing happens. My system then freezes up and I have to reboot.

I see, no Always button.

Then I have no further usefull suggestions exept for the "try this" ones.

• stop all iCloud (system preferences) services (mail, calendar, contacts,...) and then log-out of iCloud , does the problem stop ?
• sign-in and one by one select the services until you get the problem again.

UPDATE: I talked with Apple yesterday about this. They had me:

• Go to KeyChain Access in "Utilities"
• Go to Preferences
• On the General Tab, select the button for "Reset my default keychain"
• Reboot system

So far so good, I've not seen the pop up message noted above.

Should we back up keychain folder before resetting in order to keep the saved items?

I have had this problem since I enabled iCloud...

and if the Mac is asleep and I wake it and the requester is up entering the password will cause the Mac to go in to a state where only a hard reset will get you out of it...

This seems to be a bug affecting the use of iCloud if the keychain is set to lock after inactivity or on sleep. Go to Utilities > Keychain Access, select and unlock the login keychain and then go to Edit > Change settings for Login Keychain. Now turn off Lock after X minutes of inactivity, and disable Lock when sleeping.

This should fix the problem - Apple need to fix the crash though, I don't mind it asking for the password, and I don't mind if iCloud isn't working if the requester comes up when the Mac is idle or sleeping but not having the request answered shouldn't break the system (which it currently does) and using iCloud shouldn't mean you can't lock your login keychain...

Anyway hope this at least helps you to stop the problem for now

I have had this problem for the past couple of months too...since the upgrade. Will try this solution now.

Finally. Although I have only had my Mac 2 days, I know this isn't what Steve Jobs envisioned as user friendly. The Keychain thing is driving me crazy. Thanks for the input here. When I get done with school finals, I will sit down and try a few of the suggestions above. Doing things to the keychain worries me. I feel like its similar to changing the "registry" in my old Windows system .... something I didn't like messing with. Hopfully, Apple will address the issue with a patch .....
