AirPrint problems and Canon PIXMA MP495

😕Checking out the options on the iPhone.

I have a Canon PIXMA MP495 printer/scanner/copier Etc.

Works fine on the Wi-Fi (Both Mac's & PC)

And with Canon iEPP i can print photos scans on the iPhone over the Wi-Fi.

Now the problem selct the print option in a mail/word/pdf page and reply

"No AirPrint Printers Found"

Anyone else see this problem?

Anyone got a fix?

Currently i have a "help" call to Apple for next Wednesday 0800 GMT.

So if no one comes back with a solution i'll report back then.

Thanks for the reply & I accept that its not on the Apple list BUT

Not what Canon say:-

Dear Mr. Breward,

Thank you for contacting Canon Support.

In response to your query, we would confirm the MP495 is a supported printer when using AirPrint.

I can confirm that you can use AirPrint with AirPrint-enabled Canon printers, and yes, from other iPhone / iPad apps in addition to Canon's own Easy-PhotoPrint app.

My printer was completely set up and working on a wireless network (when printing from a Mac) except for the "No AirPrint printers found" message on the iPhone when attempting to print from an app.

The fix was to:

- Download the "Printer Update Utility" software from Canon (which updates the firmware)

- Turn the printer off and on (but don't worry, an instruction checklist is shown when you start the utility).

- Connect the printer via USB to a Mac (updating the firmware won't work via the wifi connection)

- Use Canon's "Printer Update" software to upgrade to firmware version 2.0

- Turn the printer off and on again.

Done. I didn't have to re-enter the wireless network information; printing from an iPhone worked automagically from that point onwards.

Hope this helps!

The fix I mentioned above worked on my MG6250, which is AirPrint enabled. I was getting the same error described above even with this AirPrint enabled printer (MG6250), as were other people. I thought it would be helpful to at least confirm that with AirPrint enabled printers, it is possible to overcome this error and print from various apps from an iPhone.

I cannot confirm whether you can get non-AirPrint enabled printers to work as well. I am also not an authoritative source for the full list of AirPrint enabled Canon printers. Apologies if that was somehow unclear in my answer above.

For anyone still searching for an answer to this question (specifically about the MP495 Model), I found the following response from a Canon employee to a similar question posed on the Canon US website:

While Canon would like to extend AirPrint support for other models, unfortunately AirPrint support will be limited to the currently announced models (PIXMA MG5320, PIXMA MG6220 and PIXMA MG8220), and most of the inkjet printers going forward. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you and would hope you support our decision.

However, you are able to print with your iPhone to the unit via the free Canon Easy-Photo Print app available through the Apple Store. The app will allow you to print pictures, but not documents.

I also have the Canon MP495 and have found a way around AirPrint not being supported. Take a screen shot (home & power button) of your document, go to your albums, open the screen shot of your document, use edit to crop out the time & date stamp, then print from Canons app, iEPP. You can change it to print 8x10, 4x6, glossy photo paper, regular photo paper or plain printer paper. I realize it's a few extra steps, but we don't have the extra money to upgrade our printer right now and honestly, I really don't want to. The MP495 is a really good printer and if you don't mind a few "home-made" modifications, you should be able to print anything you need. :D
