That's not a very nice to say especially since you can't know how this affects him/her. I too HATE visual voicemail. I'm have a tech background, use my smartphone ALL the time but the visual voicemail doesn't work well and I don't want it. So your comment that this person doesn't want to hear the truth isn't accurate in my case. What we need is an answer not a tongue lashing.
If you are worried about the small amount of data that VVM will cause you then you really don't need a smart phone to begin with. You obviously want an old flip phone because that is all you want. VVM is part of the iphone and there is no way to get rid of it. In fact using the old voicemail you would use up more minutes trying to find a voicemail you wanted to listen to. Wjosten was accurate in his reply. You just didn't want to hear the truth.
Hi my carrier doesn´t offer this service, I need desactivate, What can I do?
Hoi,
# wjosten: What kind of answer is this?
Yes, voicemail is a carrier feature but visual voicemail is a product of Apple.
I have the same question as Jc033.
Since the latest update, this visual voicemail is appearing on my iphone and i don't want it.
I have a small data package but most of the time i am ofline and watch my mails with wifi on different locations mostly.
When i have a call on voicemail, visual voicemail gives me that red spot on the call-icon and to get rid of it, i have to go online every time.
I also tryed the *5005*86*xxxx# combination but my phone do not except it.
The voicemail existed before this visual voicemail was installed by update, so it makes it a problem for Apple to solve and not for the carrier.
Does anyone has a way to disable this visual voicemail?

The only way to get rid of Visual Voicemal is to call your carrier and have voicemail turned off. Sorry if you don't like the answer but it's the right one.
No one here can help you. Exactly what part of:
"Voicemail is a carrier feature."
Do you not understand?
If your carrier won't turn off voicemail, there is nothing you can do other than find a carrier that will.
My carrier offer only voicemail, but not offer VISUAL voicemail, I need set the number of voicemail, because when I press the voicemail my iPhone show me "Can not connect to voicemail".
I tried *5005*86*xxxx# but doesn´t work, Before I had an iphone 3g and in that sequence if it worked
Some of us use UVERSE combined messaging which is not compatible with visual voice mail (bummer).
In the past when the phone upgraded to IOS5 and reinstated visual voice mail I was able to get it to turn off using
*5005*86*UVERSE VOICEMAIL NUMBER as an International Number#
hit home button
hit settings
hit general
hit reset all
This worked on an Iphone 3GS
It did not work with the iPhone 4.
I also tried
**5005*86*UVERSE VOICEMAIL NUMBER as an International Number#
No luck.
There must be a sequence to deactivate this. Clearly the other voice mail number is set-up because dialing 1 gets to the correct voice mail number.
Does anyone know what the correct code is for an iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S?
I have a solution that worked for my iPhone 4 on the AT&T Network.
First go to Settings - General - Network - now turn off celllular data (which is all I could do in AT&) or delete the visual voice mail seetings if you are able to.
Go back and look at your voice mail it should now give you some sort of nasty message about how Visual Voice Mail does not work without a cellular data connection.
Now you can go and do:
*5005*86*UVERSE VOICEMAIL NUMBER as an International Number#
hit home button
hit settings
hit general
hit reset all
In my case the UVERSE number is 1 858 352 6900 so that is what i typed in before the #
When it is done I found the visual voice mail was killed.
I then went back and turned on cellular data and when I went to voice mail visual voice mail was still off.
I had a case where none of the above steps worked. I finally decided to restore the phone as new and that solved the problem. My guess is that sometimes the software can get so messed up that none of the commands will work. If this is the case do a back-up first (cause if this doesn't solve the problem you can always restore to that back-up). Then go ahead do the restore as new and hit the voice mail key to see if it works. If it does than go and continue with the fresh install. It's a royal pain, but if all else fails it can help.
I had this problem and my carrier is StraightTalk which doesn't support visual voicemail. What is worse, is that I did not have any indication that voicemail's were being left for me. I had to piece together some other instructions along with those up above to get mine back to normal. Here is what I did.
Step 1: The first thing you want to do is discover the number of your voicemail box. You can do this by typing *#61# and pressing "call." The iPhone will now tell you if voicemail is enabled and the number of your voicemail box. Copy down this number.
Step 2: go to Settings - General - Network - now turn off cellular data.
Go back and look at your voice mail it should now give you some sort of nasty message about how Visual Voice Mail does not work without a cellular data connection.
Now you go to the keypad and input:
*5005*86*"copied number from step 1"#
hit home button
hit settings
hit general
hit reset all
The Phone reboots and visual voicemail is no longer showing on the Voicemail tab. Additionally my message count now shows for voicemail's waiting.
Hi Grayter
Thank you for your input. I have an iPhone 3GS and somehow it switched from normal voicemail to the visual voicemail some months ago. I have tried using your method and I cannot seem to get rid of the visual voicemail.
I press: *#61# and I receive the number: +15166060541
So I turn off Cellular Data.
I press *5005*86*+15166060541
I reset all
And nothing remotely has happened to the visual voicemail - it is still there.
I've tried without the +1 infron of the number.
I've called AT&T (my carrier) to ask what the number for my voicemail is. They gave me this number: +1 516 606 0585.
I've tried with that number bot with and without the +1.
Nothing has helped.
Do you have any other trick up your sleeve?
Sincerely
Daniel
I'm sorry to hear you are having this problem. The things that have helped me are:
1. Doing this more than once with the reset all and making sure that cellular and in fact all data is off (turn off wifi as well)
2. One time when all else failed I did a back up and then a restore as new. (yes it's something most of us hate to do, but sometimes there is corruption that only a restore as new will fix). If you then do these steps and it works than you know that there is corruption in your system. You can try to restore from back-up afterwards, but in my experience it will only work if you reset as new. The smart thing to do, however, is to copy all your settings and take pictures of where you put all your apps so you can do the reset without losing too much. Your email accounts will have to be set-up, you will lose all your text messages so save the ones you want to keep, and you will lose all your history etc. There are also some other programs that will lose their data so you'll have to run through the ones you use a lot and think about exporting and reimporting the data. Calendar programs fall into this catgory.
Good Luck!
Hi after several days I found this method and it worked on my iPhone 4s:
Do as follows:
Find your universal mail number by dialing
*#61#
Then dial
*5005*86(your universal numer)#
And click call( note to not include the * after
The 86 and no+1 before area code.
Then do a reset all and it will work.
This will not reset your files or documents
Just the phones settings.
Ok first of all thanks for the post, I've been on the phone for 5 days with straight talk and this is my exact problem. I have tried what you suggested but did not want to do a reset all just reset network and now I get a funny litte phone icon in my top menu bar and an arrow pointing to the right.
Any suggestions? Sill no indication.
