What is the difference between FaceTime and iCloud, in functionality

I'm confused about FaceTime vs. iCloud. They do basically the same, and are similar to Skype. Why would I choose one or the other.

FaceTime works between Macs, iPods, iPhones and iPads. But iChat only between Macs, is this correct. What else.

Thanks. Harry

Facetime is video chat, similar to Skype. iCloud is NOT video chat.

Facetime and iCloud do different things. iCloud stores and syncs your calendar, mail, pics, etc, between your devices. Facetime is "just" video chat.

Now if you ask whether to choose iChat or Facetime, then as you've found, iChat is only for Macs, not iOS devices. iChat does have the ability to "share the Mac's desktop" so that the person you're iChat-ing with, can see what's on your Macs destop. Facetime is "just" a video camera (so to speak.)

Hi,

Face Time = 1-1 Video Chat between iOS 4 and above devices and Mac with the Mac Version of Face Time.

iChat = and Instant Message app that can join the AIM, Jabber (this included Googletalk and Facebook) and Yahoo Services as well as doing LAN based Bonjour Chats.

Can also do Audio Only and Video Chats to Buddies on the services above if they are using iChat.

In addition to this is fully compatible with AIM or Trillian Pro on a PC.

There's More.
Can send File and Pics as File Transfers.
Can Send Pic-in-chat when a Pic is dragged to the Text sending field and sent it displays In line in the chat and is scalable..

Does a similar job if you drag a Pic to the Video Chat window where it can replace the Video feed.

iChat Theatre formalizes this even further playing files so that Movies and Presentations or Documents can be displayed as the Feed.

This includes a Link to iPhoto to display individual Pic or Slide shows (Turn the Music off first).

Can Play the same Video Effect and Backdrops that Photo Booth can.

iChat can do 4 Way chats in Video and 10 Way in Audio Only (you are one of these)

Think of Captain Kirk on planet to Enterprise with Communicator for Face Time (But with Pics)

iChat is more like full subspace communication with StarFleet.

Both Face Time and iChat are Peer-to-Peer in Video and Audio Chat.

In the case of iChat this means you can log out of a Buddy list and still continue the chat as it is between just you and your Buddy(s)

Skype does what it says.

However some would say it is about the way it does what it does that is the Issue.

Run Little Snitch if you are going to use Skype and limit the number of connections it makes. (it does not use a central server (Other than the name database) and share lots of people's connections.
