"Audio configuration is damaged".

Hey guys, I recently composed a song on garageband (I worked hard on it) and i don't have any access to it whatsoever. Everytime I try to open it, i get the following message: "Audio configuration is damaged".

It won't let me open the file, and it's a .band file so I can't convert it to mp3 without the use of garageband. However, the message only appears for this particular song, everything works fine for the other ones. It's therefore a problem coming from the song, not garageband (i've tried to send it by mail to my old macbook, same message). For your information, I have all the latest updates (OSX Lion, Garageband '11) and I have a macbook pro.

I really don't know what to do but i definitely do not wanna lose my song because i've worked hours on it.

Does anyone know how to fix this issue?

Thanks a lot for the help 🙂

You should likely be able to recover your audio recordings, but since most other data is encoded, I don't know of any way to repair or recover MIDI data, or editing/effecting you've done.

  • create a new GB project
  • cntrl-click the damaged file and choose Show Package Contents
  • open the Media folder
  • drag and drop the AIFF files into the timeline of your new project
