A purchased copy of iWork resides on my iMac. If I want to share documents on my iPhone, do I have to purchase each iWork app for the iPhone @ $9.95 via the iTunes or the AppStore? It would seem that the purchase of the original iWork for the Mac would cover that sort of thing but maybe not.

No, unfortunatly you will need to buy another copy. iWork may work well (if not seamlessly at times) with Pages, Numbers, and Keynote,but they are differant products on differant platforms, requiring seperate purchases.
