not my question...

but I'll take the opportunity to be more specific...

installed FCPX, downloaded additional content and installed.

Have FCP7 on same boot HD, but the notice hadn't come out yet about opening Motion 4 before doing anything else.

Additional content does not show up and the folder for MOTION TEMPLATES in the MOVIES folder is full of empty folders...

When I download the installers for additional content straight from Apple's site nothing gets installed even though the installer says it was successful.

thoughts?...

Ok. The Motion Templates folder located in ~user/Movies only contains templates that you yourself publish to FCPX, or copies that you open in Motion from within FCPX.

The Motion Templates that you download with the additional content can be accessed from the opening splash screen of Motion. There is a little column on the left side with a category called Compositions. That's where you should be able to see them. If you want to see them in FCPX, you have to load them in Motion 5, and then publish them to FCPX.

I believe Mark Spencer did a tutorial on his website describing the steps as well as one that will allow you to access your Motion 4 templates in FCPX as well.

Here then is a better way of asking the question, or at least it is my question. Where does Motion 5 have the templates you see when you first start up Motion? I have some motion project templates from Digital Juice. I want to have them there so when I start Motion I can choose one of them just like I'd choose the templates that come with Motion. I hope this question makes sense and that there is an answer for it. Feel free to email me at technorev@me.com

If you are refering to the 8 compositions you see in the project browser when you start Motion, they are in two locations. Atmospheric, pulse, snap, splash and swarm are in the Motion Application package. Right click Motion app and choose show package contents. They are in Resources>Templates>compositions. Decode, Skyline and Vine can be found in your startup drive Library>Application support>Final Cut Pro>Templates>Compositions

Are you sure you are looking in your startup drive (usually Macintosh HD) Library not your user Library? Also go to Motion menu in the menu bar at the top of your screen and make sure you have downloaded additional content. If you have it will be grayed out. If it is not grayed out click on it and the additional content which includes Vine and Decode will be downloaded.

Jim,

Thank you for your reply. I downloaded Motion from the App Store and never downloaded additional content. But when I go to the Motion Menu, the "download additional content it grayed out. Also when I go to the HD library folder, Then Application Support. I don have a folder called Final Cut Studio or Final Cut Pro. I do have a Pro Apps folder as well as App store, iLifemedia browser, Crash Reporter, Script Editor, apple, and garageband.

I did a search for compostion on the HD and found Compositions.local but it was empty.

Jim,

I actually just went past the project selector screen and went into Motion and it allows me to check for additional content and did the same thing from final cut pro. But no dice yet. I do have a compositions folder in the HD/library folder but it is empty. FYI I had a good skate board buddy in high school 1989 with your last name. Apple Valley, CA

This is indeed very strange. I am using OS 10.6.8 so I wonder if 10.7 or 10.8 store in a different location. The other files you mention in Application Support I also see there. Try this link http://support.apple.com/downloads/#motion and see if you can download the additional content. Do you have Atmospheric, Pulse, Snap, Splash and Swarm templates show up in the opening splash screen under compositions?

Interesting about your skate board friend as my name is not very common. I come from Virginia so no relative I would guess.
