Dashboard Movies Widget suddenly not working

Do you think you could email attach it to some of us if we gave you our email? I still think that Apple/Fandango have to fix version 1.1 on the Movies widget. I deleted the widget and redownloaded Lion 10.7.5 and the new Movies widget 1.1 that I received still does not work.

On second thought, maybe you couldn't email it because the widget is 1.1 megabytes and some mail systems won't accept a file that large, but I guess you could try. Maybe Apple/Fandango should know what you found.

I just replaced the widget in both my system and user library with the older downloaded one, and the widget is now working perfectly. I'm also running ML 10.8.3.

Hello all.

I just wanted to report that I checked my version of the movies widget and it is 0.4 - dated Jan 26, 2010. I am running SL 10.6.8. It is currently working.

For quite some time, the widget was not working. I tried some of the workarounds, and then just gave up. About a month ago I started it up again with the original files in place and it worked. I don't know what was going wrong with it, but it appears to be functioning now. Some of the 3D movies do not show a preview though.

They must have really changed something with the updated version for ML (& maybe Lion?).

Thank you so much, JML54. I replaced my version 1.1 with your download of .4 of the Movies widget and it works with Lion 10.7.5 on my computer. Supposedly, Fandango and Apple have been working on this but YOU found the solution.

S.G. found that version 0.4 works. I just confirmed where it came from!

It really works and I am grateful, because I missed this widget's information. Surprising, when deleted version 1.1, which did not work, with 0.4, the older version even remembered my location setting. I did not have to change it. Good work!

Version 0.4 was the version that shipped with Snow Leopard. I created my Time Machine backup when I got my MacBook Pro with Snow Leopard (through my upgrade to Mountain Lion - I skipped Lion). So after reading about 0.4 in S.G.'s post, I went back to my initial Time Machine backup and copied that original version of the file to my desktop, zipped a backup copy of the newer one, and replaced that newer one with 0.4.

There have been at least one or two intermediate updates to the widget - the previous one when it stopped working in the fall. To simplify the solution from the fall, the problem had to do with the reference to the Apple server pulling the information from Fandango (which is explained in earlier postings in this thread): a hack that worked until Apple issued the update was to change the original wu.apple.com in the widget to www.fandango.com.

I should have said "surprisingly, when I replaced widget 1.1 (which came when I reinstalled Lion 10.7.5) with the older widget 0.4 (from Snow Leopard), the older widget even remembered my previous location setting."

Bottom line: The Movies widget is back and active on my MacBook Pro. Great work!

I deleted the widget 1.1 from my Lion 10.7.5 system and reinstalled Lion from the Apple server. It placed Movies widget 1.1 back in my computer library widget folder. It still didn't work. Apple did not do an update.

What worked was JML54's posting of a link to download the older Snow Leopard Movies widget 0.4, which is now in my computer library widget folder replacing 1.1 which I removed from the folder.

I am happy to have the Fandango widget and information available again.

The Movies widget is back! It looks like Apple has addressed the issue with the latest OS update (OS 10.8.4). The widget works again... finally!

I not sure what happened with mine, It stopped working a month or so ago. Today I decided to reinstall the Movie widget and it's working fine again.

Beginning yesterday, June 11, 2013, the Movies widget version 1.1.1 which came with OSX Mountain Lion 10.8.4 became intermittent. I found and so did the AppleCare Senior Advisor, who helped me, that it varied between the famous black rectangle and the active movies display. We found that we had to delete and re-add the widget multiple times to get it back. The senior advisor made it "Movies Widget Issues, Case: 466619378" for my account. It happens on both of our laptops, a Mid-2009 MacBook Pro and our brand new Mid-2013 MacBook Air, which is really a great computer. Both systems are on 10.8.4.

The last time it was finally fixed, it took a senior advisor to have the Apple engineers understand the importance of the issue and resolve it.

Anyone else experiencing the issue?

My Movies widget started working again a few weeks ago and now isn't working again either.
