iPhone 3GS, Windows 7
Try holding down the Home and Sleep buttons together for 10-15 seconds until you see a white Apple logo. After it reboots, try to shut down again.

I was able to shut it down but now it will not turn back on and when I connect it to my computer it gives me an error message of: iTunes could not connect to this iPhone because an unknown error occurred (0xE8000065).
I have a similar problem except when i press sleep button and home button voice control comes on!
