Having reviewed some of the threads here, can someone please confirm that it is definitely not possible to show a timer during playback? I find it hard to believe that this basic functionality doesn't exist or cannot be plugged in..

To clarify, I am looking to playback Events, not Projects..
You can click VIEW/DISPLAY PLAYHEAD INFO and you can see the time code as you skim your cursor through the event.
Thanks Appleman1958, however I need to see the time code when playing back the event in full screen mode. Any thoughts?
I can't think of a way to do this. This is not a feature of iMovie. Most iMovie users would edit visually rather than off an edit decision list.
If you need this feature, you might consider Final Cut Pro X, which will let you see timecodes in the Event Browser, (although I don't think you would see them in the Full Screen view.)
