Images missing in PhotoStream

In the last few days I've found that a couple of photos were missed in uploads to PhotoStream even though it's automatic when they're taken on an iPhone.

I went to the photos in camera roll and tried to add them from there but it wouldn't work. So, then, I emailed them to myself, saved them and they showed up in my camera roll again with newly sequenced numbers!! At least they were in PhotoStream! Please does anyone know why? It doesn't seem to leave me with any security in backup of photos via this method.

I've also discovered an image missing from my photostream. It successfully landed in my camera role, and later images synced properly into my photostream, but I'm missing exactly one picture. Interesting enough - it appears between two videos. I attempted to replicate the problem, by taking a picture between two videos, but it didn't happen again.

Unfortunately, there isn't an easy way to copy a picture from your camera roll into your photo stream - so getting this picture onto my laptop will likely have to rely on the old fashioned copy-over-cable.

Has anyone else noticed pictures not being synced into photostream?

Does this happen with existing photos, or new photos. When you take a picture does it land in your camera roll? While you are on wifi, how long before the picture moves to your photostream. Do you just get one picture in your photostream.

I've found IOS 5 on my iPhone 4 to work pretty flawlessly so far, with the one exception being this missing photo from my photostream. I've been unable to replicate the problem - so we'll see if it happens again.

I haven't tried to send existing pictures to PhotoStream(PS). It's only the new ones I'm taking that are causing problems. It certainly doesn't work with the speed of the keynote video! Two nights ago I tried to take a photo to upload to FB and it saved to my camera roll but I was using FB on my computer and it wouldn't show in PS so I could use it. Showed up the next morning when I opened my MBP again! Wasn't in sequence either. A couple of pictures I took later on showed up beforehand in PS.

What all this means to me is that PS is unreliable if you value your photos and I will have to keep syncing my phone the old way. Usually I saved my pictures through iPhoto not iTunes so now when I plug in when I'm in iPhoto it comes up with pictures that are supposedly not downloaded and yet some of them are in PS. Using an iPhone 4 with OS5 and MBP with latest vs of Lion.

So, with the exception of one (1) picture, photostream has been 100% reliable for me. As soon as I connect to WiFi, there is a brief pause, and all the pictures that I have taken on my Camera Roll on my iPhone, appear on my Photo Stream on my iPhone, and, basically at the same time, on my Macintosh (I'm using Aperture). Speed has been very impressive - if I take pictures while on WiFi - it's almost instantaneous - maybe a 10-20 second delay - which, given all I really care about is eventually getting the pictures off my iPhone, is total overkill, but I certainly don't mind the speed.

The picture I took this morning, still hasn't shown up in Photostream, even though pictures taken after it have, the picture that is missing is sitting on my Camera Roll, and I've been on an excellent WiFi Connection for several hours.

My general assesment of Photostream is slightly different than yours (because I've had a different experience) - it's _almost_ perfect, with just a single missing picture. If It doesn't drop another one, I'll be happy.

I would love to hear from someone else in the apple community, or, in the best case, apple tech support, to see if this is a known issue that is being worked on, and isn't anything to be worried about.

"On your Mac or PC, your photos are downloaded and stored in full resolution. On your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple TV, your Photo Stream photos are delivered in a device-optimized resolution that speeds downloads and saves storage space. While actual dimensions will vary, an optimized version of a photo taken by a standard point-and-shoot camera will have a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution when pushed to your devices."

Found that on the apple support site... Doesnt look like you can change it manually

Photostream has been reasonably laggy and buggy for me. I notice that I'll take a series of photos and maybe one or two of that series will show up in photostream. At first I thought it may have to do with photos I take from the lockscreen. Even when unlocking my screen first and going to the camera app it will leave whole groups of photos out of photo stream. I am wondering if I am snapping too many photos too quickly or what. But I used image capture to load them into aperture, spiffied them up then put them on facebook and didn't really care if they were in photo stream.

I recently got the iphone 4s and I am also having a problem with Photo Stream...

It has missed out more than 1 photo when downloading from my phone to PC. I have also found that when I upload photos from my PC using the "upload" folder in Photo Stream it also misses out a few photos, I have checked the photos are the correct format...

I cant replicate the problem either, which makes it that much more confusing....

Very cool how it works, just wish apple would fix the bug so that it works 100% of the time

This doesn't make sense, you don't need to take shots only under wi-fi connection, besides no photo is synchronized while on 3G. Theoritically it marks the photos to be uploaded to the photostream and pushes whenever it has wi-fi. Somehow some photos are not marked for photostream from camera roll album. I miss photos between shots in the row.

I would say that the purpose of Photo Stream is not as any kind of backup, rather a convenient way to see/share recent photos between devices. As discussed elsewhere it's worth noting that in any case the photos are resized and will disappear from Photo Stream in the end as you take more photos.

Photo Stream is a neat feature but not without bugs in these relatively early days and I think we should hope for improvements over time.
