screensaver not working

Hi all,

I've done a forum search for this particular problem but have not found it, as relating to Snow Leopard.

I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and just this morning have found that my screensaver is not working. I have configured a hot corner to engage the screensaver and when I move my cursor into that corner, the screensaver begins but turns off almost immediately. I am currently using one of the screensaver images that comes with the system ( beach ) and have tried other screensaver images but have the same issue. I haven't changed anything recently in my screensaver preferences and have always had my energy saver preference set to 'put display to sleep after 4 minutes of inactivity'. The display is not going to sleep at all.

Any input on this issue will be greatly appreciated.

It looks like something is immediately waking your machine. In the energy saver preferences do you have "wake for network access" checked?

Well somthing is waking it up. Look at your Activity Monitor for any likely culprits.

Thanks. You were right. It must have been something that I was doing in Firefox. I had Firefox buffering a very large video. When that was finished, I quit out of Firefox and the screensaver works just fine now.

I had this problem with the screensaver, and there was no process running. The culprit was the cache file of the Preference Pannel, com.apple.preferencepanes.cache. This file is on /users/<user>/Library/caches/.

The best thing to do: Close the Preference Panel, move this file to the desktop (to make a backup) and fire the Preference Panel. If things don`t work, restore the file from the desktop to /Library/caches/
