Airplay mirroring does not work, i can sellect apple tv but i cannot select mirroring, it does not show the option mirroring, button airplay i can select

I am having the same problem. Both IPad 2 and apple tv have latest updates and it was working fine last week then all of a sudden the icon has vanished. Does anyone have a clue?

Try rebooting devices, router. Check for interference

Having the same issue. Worked fine last week, not this week. Posted asme last night. Am redtoriing now to see if helps. Pictures were fine but no mirroring. Mirror selection would not present.

Ok the restore worked, although it took 30 mins. Hopefully the fix holds.

Should - but doesn't. Same problem here. All devices and software as required - just doesn't work. Only get a speaker icon next to the Apple TV in available Airplay devices list. So can send sound to the TV - just can't send vid - and therefore can't mirror. Bit annoying as it's the only reason I bought the Apple TV.

So you have an iPad 2 (or iPhone 4S) and are double clicking home, swiping (not trying within an app)?

I am having the same problem of no Air Play icon. I just today purchased the Apple TV and according to update it has the latest OS. Air Play is turned on and no password. Neither my iPhone 4 or my iPad2, both running iOS 5.0.1 display the Air Play icon. I have spent most of the day trying to get this to work for Mirroring for a presentation I have to make in a couple of weeks and a proof of concept meeting tomorrow afternoon. I am a dedicated Apple user but this is getting to me.

If you aren't even getting the airplay icon (as opposed to the option to mirror) then it points to a network issue. See link for some tips.

Thank you, that was the issue. I worked with my network admin and we got it working. I will be using the Apple TV for a campus presentation. I'm looking forward to wowing the adminstration with the Apple TV.

I'm having a similar issue. I just bought an apple tv unit. Received it feb 22 2012. I plugged it in and connected it to the network. It can access the Internet. Cause I can stream movies through it. It says it has the latest os/firmware when I select "update" on that menu item. I have an ipad2 with the latest os. I downloaded the remote app and can use it so I know there are no network connectivity issues....but I still do not see any airplay/mirror icon on my Ipad2. Very frustrating. Wondering if there are any other ideas. I've rebooted the ipad2 several times. I've tried changing languages based on other posts with no luck.

As said above, if you are not seeing an airplay icon then it isn't simply an issue with mirroring and points to a network issue. See link above for some tips

But how can it be a networking issue if I can use the remote app that I downloaded and send stuff from the ipad2 to the appletv?

And just to be thorough, I have tried the networking troubleshooting items listed in Ts4085.
