Use App Store/Apple ID abroad?

Hi all.

I'm a Swede currently in France, trying to download content from the App Store. But I keep getting the errror message that my Apple ID is wrong. I even set a new one, after three errors, and this new will not be accepted either.

Is the Apple ID only to be used in my home country or what? Am I not able to update the apps on my iPhone when I'm abroad?

I'm on wifi, so it's not a roaming issue.

Have tried to find the answer in these discussion pages before posting, and also in Apple's pages, but no luck. Maybe I used the wrong search terms, or I'm the only one with this problem.

You can only purchase apps using your iTunes account (credit or debit card) that is associated with your country of residence.

Thanks for the answer. Why is it so? Feels a bit "old".

Can I create another Apple ID for France? Or would that mess up my iPhone completely?

Wait a minute, I think I misread your reply.

I am trying to purchase through my normal ("Swedish") iTunes account, associated to my Swedish debit card. Nothing strange there.

The only thing is that me and my iPhone happen to be in France for a while. Here, I'm obviously not able to use the App Store. How can this be?

I have the same problem: i "commute" between 2 countries, and I cannot even open my app store acctount outside of the united states.

help?
