Fill colour opacity problem in Preview

Say I add a shape using the annotation toolbar, a rectangle or circle, choose "Fill color" from the Color Menu and see the Colors panel pop up. I choose some colour from the palette and then want to adjust the opacity with the slider at the bottom. Now, it used to wotk perfectly but today it started to act weird. Namely, if the opacity is set to anything between 0 and 50%, it behaves like totally transparent (0%), whereas when it's set to anything between 51% and 100% it behaves like totally opaque (100%). It should be gradual, but instead it has only two values, complately transparent or completely opaque, where the 50% is the dividing line.

I found these too topics describing the problem, but they are unaswered and archived:

Same here.

When I inspect older documents with Quick Look, then the transparent annotations still look okay, but not when I open the documents in Preview 6. When I modify an annotation and save the document, then the transparency is gone in Quick Look as well.

Some of these documents were created and edited in Lion, so I would say that this issue came with Mountain Lion, but I see that you already have the problem using Lion.
