Q: Iphone 4s stops playing music

I just replaced my 3Gs with an Iphone 4s 32 GB. Went for a walk today and used the ipod on it for the first time. I did what I always did with my 3Gs, selected a playlist and hit shuffle and let the music play.  It played about 5 songs and then stopped.  Thought I hit a button or something?  Couldn't get it to start playing by hitting the pause/play button on the headphones.  Pulled the phone out, and the screen looked like the song was still playing.  There was the little play symbol up in the top right of the phone and the pause button was showing on the song.  I hit the pause/play button on the ipod a few times and it still wouldn't play.  Had to go back to the playlist, hit shuffle again, and then it started playing.  In my 2 hour walk, this happened  probably 8 or 10 times.  Sometimes playing 3 or 4 songs, sometimes only one.  It always stopped at the end of a song.  The playlist has 90 songs in it.  My 3gs NEVER did this and I used the ipod alot.  Not sure if this is the Ios 5 software or the Iphone. I think it's the phone, cuz I did load ios 5 onto my 3gs and used it a few times before I got my 4gs and didn't have any problems.  I did a search here and saw the problem as far back as 2007.  I would think by now it wouldn't be an issue?  Any solutions to this?  Thanks in advance.

I just wanted to add a little more detail for clarity.  This is while playing music through the ipod with headphones without any other apps running.

I am having the exact same issue on my 4S.

Pandora app was doing the same thing, so i thought it was that. However, after I switched over to the Music app (formerly iPod app) i found it would simply stop playing as well.

I did not have these problems with my 3GS so i think its either new with iOS5 or new with the 4S.

Either way i don't have an answer.

I have this similar issue as well on my White iphone 4S. I did search google and it appears that removing all your music and resyncing your music back into your ipod should resolve this issue.

A couple quick things I've tried...simply powering phone down and doing a reset too.  Tried uninstalling and reinstalling my playlists....it didn't help.  Don't have a lot of time to mess around with it this afternoon or I'd try installing and uninstalling entire library and trying a complete restore. I guess I could try and take all my music off and put it back on, but interesting that Pandora was doing it too?

This started happening on my iPhone today as well.  I've tried everything but deleting music....argh.  Guess I'll have to try that.  This *****.

I have an iPhone 4 and the same has been happening to me too. I play music through my stereo and have a connection using the headphone jack. One song and out. Argh!

OK, so I removed all my music again, restarted my iphone4 & put all the music back & restarted iphone again - it seems to have worked - played musc using shuffle for a couple of hours last night with no freezes or problems..

I was able to resolve the issue by resyncing my iphone and erasing existing music.  Only synced musid.  Now it's working.  Think it's related to an iCloud issue.

I installed iOS 5 on my iphone 4 and music stops playing after a few songs. It says it's still playing, I'll get it going again by closing the music app and opening it again, then it's showing a different song than what's actually playing, Is it because they separated the music from the videos?  With the iOS 4, I listened to my music on my iphone 4 all the time. This problem is really annoying!  Has anyone found a definite solution to this problem?

My GF's iPhone 4 is having same issue. She is also getting incorrect album covers periodically. Hoping someone finds an answer.

I have the same problem on my new 4S ( I also had a 3GS beforehand). Mine cuts off after 20 seconds or so of music. Then I can start it again straight away but it only lasts another 20 secs or so. I am going to try out a few fixes with syncing and will post any results.

I am on my 2nd iPhone 4s (in less than a week) and BOTH have had this stop-start music issue…

I got a new one last night when my original 4s (received on Wednesday 11/02/11) would not play alerts, keyboard clicks, music, or videos without the ear buds or Bluetooth (after nearly a dozen hard restarts, one restore through iTunes and a “deep” restore for the firmware at the Apple store).   After I got my replacement, I was told at the Apple store not to sync through iTunes anymore if I am using iCloud because that would contribute to the problem?!?!?!  I thought maybe it’s an iCloud problem because it needs a strong Wi-Fi connection which I don’t have here at the office…

I hope this is just a software fix because I am tired of all of these problems.  5 iPhones, 5 iPods and this iPhone (4s) is the worst...  Apple, please get that operating system upgrade out FAST!
