@me.com accounts are already Apple IDs which is why you can't add it to another AppleID. Doing so is effectively trying to merge Apple IDs which is not possible.

Primary email: ***@gmail.com
Alternative email: ***@me.com
Everything goes to the gmail. I want to delete that email off of my account and have nothing but the @me account. I can't imagine this should be so effing difficult to tell Apple to stop supporting Google, and start sending emails to iCloud emails.

Why cannot you configure the me.com in the email settings as the primary email?

That is exactly what I want to know.

If you have the Gmail account removed from your device, have you tried sending a test email to your @me.com address? If so, it's functioning as it's supposed to.

That has nothing to do with this. I want my gmail to not be associated with my account, but the @me cannot be the primary email.
All I can figure is that apple and google are owned by the same group and won't allow anyone to leave for the other.

Apple and Google are two separate companies, so no, they aren't working together in some mad conspiracy.
Did you use your Gmail address to create the iCloud account? If so, then that will always be the primary address as this is the Apple ID that the account is based on. It's not possible to separate the @me that was made with the Apple ID used for iCloud.

That is the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Apple won't let me leave google. All the more reason to believe they're working together to take over the Internet.

Yeah, after reading about how Apple wants to take out Android (which was created by Google) I highly doubt that. But go ahead and get all flustered because you actually need a real email address before you can create your iCloud account. Complaining to us isn't going to change a single thing. Complain to Apple instead (https://www.apple.com/feedback/icloud.html)

I know that this is plain text, but I felt as though it was fairly obvious that my google/apple conspiracy theories were sarcasm. But yeah I've already emailed apple.

See this discussion concerning your specific situation:
I also have this problem btw.
Basically it comes down to a bug in Apple's Apple ID system. Hopefully they will solve it.

Originally, my iCloud was @me.com, and I was not about to even send an iPhoto to ebay or anywhere else, sø I changed ALL to gmail, even my iCloud account. Now I can't change it back. iCloud has a mail section in it and I have it checked off.
I am getting SOOOOO confused!!!!
