Why doesn't iTunes detect iOS 5 for my iPod

I recieved an email from Apple today saying that I could now download iOS 5 on to my iPod. When I connected my iPod Touch 3rd Gen. and clicked the check for updates button, it came up with a message saying that my iPod is up to date (with version 4.2.1) and that it will check for an update tomarrow (Oct. 23 2011)

Has iOS 5 not been released yet? Or is there a problem with my iPod? By the way, I have installed iTunes 10.5

There is no 8 GB 3G iPOd. Apple only made 32 and 64 GB 3G iPOds. When the 3G iPods were released, the 8 GB 2G continued to be sold with the same iOS as on the 3G Pods.

What makes you think you have a 8 GB 3G iPod?

Well, I researched it on Apple before I bought it and it was advertised as a 3rd generation. My receipt also states that it is a 3rd generation. After checking my serial number, it does say it is a 2nd generation. After much research, I found that Apple "originally" advertised them as 3rd generation and therefor they were sold by retail outlets as 3rd generation. Apple later labeled them as 2nd generation because they were basically the same as the previous version. I am furious! I feel like I was completely defrauded by Apple and by Walmart. If it was basically the same as the previous 2nd generation version. I would have saved myself money and purchased the older model. Not sure what I can do about it now though, it has been a year since I bought it.
