Just got my iPhone 4S 18hrs ago and it wen to "no service" like 3 times (so far)!!

  • I have changed carrier setting to manual I can select my network but still "no service"
  • I turned on then off "airplane mode" it goes searching... then "no service"
  • it only work when I restart or reinsert the SIM

Is this common? do I have to worry ?

    I revisited apple yesterday for the 6th time yesterday to hv them replace my iphone4 that was constantly searching while I wait for a new 4s to arrive which I won't open until there is resolution.

    At the genius bar, they pretend that they know nothing of these issues. That if it persists they will escalate me to level2 and examine AT&T involvement. Yet spadge007 is saying apple is still writing new builds. So, they are aware. Not sure what the harm in the truth is.

    Apple are developing the next version of the Operating System iOS 5.1. If you ask the genius they will not give you any ideas as to when it will be released. The 5.1 beta 3 expires March 14th so that gives some indication of its development cycle.

    Hopefully, any baseband bugs introduced in 5.0.1 will be fixed in 5.1

    Apple will never admit something is wrong because of lawsuits. Apple will always deny issues until a fix is out and ready for download.

    This has been ongoing for nearly 3 months!

    iOS 5.1 beta has been in the works since November - a very long cycle for an 'update'.  Apple is WELL AWARE of all of the issues.... without Jobs, this is the new Apple.

    If you have had all these issues with signal, battery, wi-fi and more and continue to support Apple with iPhone 5, you are crazy!  2 months for a beta?  This isn't some magical new iPhone like in 2007. It's an update from iOS 4 to 5 and Apple should have tested this stuff better in June to October before releasing it to the public and didn't.

    The quality of workmanship can be seen without Jobs and I am afraid Apple is now like any.other.company!

    Let's continue to make noise. Return your devices and hit Apple's bottom line since they love to deny issues.   I think Cook has failed as CEO. I think Apple knows the amount of noise we are causing.  Keep at it until we get what we paid for ... a premium iPhone 4S and not iPod Touch S.

    Apple cares about sales and proof is in the pudding... iPhone 4S is to be released this week to 20+ more countries including China with all these problems and they just DON'T CARE!  They want money and we are idiots for supporting this kind of system.  Never again.  Android is my next phone!  Heck I might even consider Microsoft.  Apple just doesn't deserve it after iOS 5.x!

    Hello, Are you saying that the release 5.0.1 might have caused the "no service" problem. As I mentioned earlier, I got a replaced new iphone 4s with version 5.0

    Would you suggest me to wait and not upgrade it to 5.0.1

    Thanks,

    Visweswar

    Yes I think the 5.0.1 update caused this problem. If you have no problems with your 4S running iOS 5.0 I would NOT update it. Wait until iOS 5.0.2 or 5.1 and wait to see if the new version fixes this fault.

    Unfortunately, both my replacement 4S phones came with 5.0.1 (5A405) installed otherwise I would have stuck with iOS 5.0

    hi!

    it seems I have (at last) found the solution for this problem. I started having the "no service" problem after I updated my software to 5.0.1. After several attempts I managed to find a guy from Apple who was honest about this issue and said that the new 5.0.1 software DOES have problems and almost 50% of the iPhone 4S' have this issue. He told me to fully restore my iPhone (setting it to factory settings) and then installing ios 5.0.1 (9A406). And it works (so far) !

    so to all of you having problems, especially after the 5.0.1 update = fully RESTORE your iPhone and then install the 5.0.1 (9A406) software.

    Good luck!

    I'm sorry to say that there doesn't appear to be a one fix for all solution to this NO SERVICE problem.

    There are various attempts at a fix that have helped some users out there:

    1. Turning Sim unlock off;

    2. Replacing Sim;

    3. Doing a clean restore;

    4. Updating to the latest version of 5.0.1 (9A406);

    5. Replacing the iPhone 4 handset itself.

    But there are still people out there where the problem continues.

    Is it hardware/software we just don't know?

    I know it doesn't help those out there who are still suffering, but for me the problem was only resolved after recieving a new iPhone 4s - it's been 5 weeks now with no drop of service, and the odd thing is i'm on the older 5.0.1 (9A405)?

    Nothing works for me.

    I was also informed by the local Genius Bar that downgrading the iOS to a previous version will void your warranty and any AppleCare plan so do NOT do that.

    My network drops several times an hour. Switching to airplane mode and back sometimes does the trick. Sometimes I have to full reboot.

    If AT&T will let me trade for a Galaxy, I'm outta here. This is ridiculous. I NEED my phone for work and it consistently lets me down.

    I also have this issue.... it's frustrating.. but my story is a bit different. I got a used iPhone 4S which is bought in December, so it's practically new and I have no papers on it or anything because the original owner lost it...

    The phone were locked and of course got unlocked, and I could use it fine. I had a fine connection to my carrier, could do 3G, send messages, receive them and make calls and receive those as well. But then after 3 days of a restored iPhone 4S, No Service appeared. I of course just restarted my phone a couple of times, and it eventually started working. Then the next day it wen't completely off, I just couldn't get a signal.

    I tried every single solution. Restored, complete restore, replacing sim, flight mode... every single option mentioned on the entire Apple forum! But of course, some of us guys are unlucky and it still hasn't fixed the problem! The way I can get a signal again is by reinserting my sim card like a thousand times when it's turned on, and then sometimes I get a signal for 2 secs and then it goes to 1 bar and on to No Service. But I keep inserting it, and eventually it'll catch the signal.

    Once I have caught this signal and it stays there, it usually won't go off (haven't experienced it yet) until I turn my phone off or enable flight mode. So my signal is great and I can send messages and receive them... but not I can't make calls or receive them! When I call someone, what I see is an immediate message saying "Call Ended".. and when people try to call me, they hear my answering tone or whatever it's called. And that's the first thing they hear, they don't hear it trying to call me, it just switches over to my answering tone like the phone is turned off.

    I hope this is a software problem. If anyone knows if Apple is doing something about this, please let me or us know! I hate this... oh and by the way, I got an iPhone 4S 16GB 5.0.1 (9A406)

    My problem got resolved by putting in a new sim. There was no fault with the iPhone. I tried inserting another sim from somebody else's iPhone - it was working fine so I ordered a new sim from my carrier (Du).
