Feb 1, 2012 9:28 AM in response to mritaccaby gdjgarcia,It also seems that Apple inadvertily chooses to punish iPhone users who choose not to jailbreak their phones. There is a history of the "No Service" message. Mritacca has had experence with it back in iOS 3 based on a post back on page 8. Looking into this, I came across some discussions that Apple will change the baseband firmware to keep ahead of or disable jailbreakers. So in their quickness to disable a jailbreak, the baseband is not fully tested and will sometimes cause this "No Service" message on legit iPhones. My iPhone 4S problems didn't start until I installed 5.0.1(9A405). With that update the baseband changed! So the path I am beginning to see is that this is going to continue to happen. Our phones will work for X amount of time. Jailbreak comes out. Update comes out to "add" features, but also changes baseband. "No Service" message comes back. Wait 4 months for phone to work again. etc etc.

Thanks for the response. I have known about this as well. It worked for some and didn't for others. Just like 5.0.1 (9A405) fixed the battery issues for some and for some it made it even worse. Last weekend my battery started to drain 20% overnight. It had never done that before.

Feb 2, 2012 4:15 AM in response to abds2000by patbehn,Just wanted to say that I had these kind of problems, and Apple replaced my iPhone 4S with a new one, and now it's working flawlessly. No problems at all. Apparently, some of them is just defect, unfortunately.

Feb 2, 2012 5:50 AM in response to patbehnby mritacca,I find that hard to believe...
this is my 4th iPhone 4S and it still does it.
Also, this problem came about after iOS 5.0.1 build 9A405. Build 9A406 doesn't correct the issue either.
This issue is now affecting many people who own iPhone 4 who upgraded to iOS 5.0.1
It didn't before that... it leads me to believe it is a software issue.
I am glad yours is working... I am waiting for iOS 5.1 and if this doesn't fix it, I encourage everyone to swap their iPhones... I know I will!

Feb 2, 2012 10:30 AM in response to abds2000by markymark8,There may be a problem with your SIM card because iOS 5.0.1 has been known to "fry" the actual sim card. Follow the instructions here to fix network and signal problems on the iPhone.

Feb 3, 2012 11:57 AM in response to abds2000by Sunny Xu,hey just want to tell you guys, this is 99% not the phone's problem. I had this problem just after I got my new iphone 4s today, then I called my service company and they said it's because the sim card wasn't activated.they let me hold on for sometime and then told me to connect my device to the itunes, then all set! try this!!!

Feb 6, 2012 9:22 AM in response to abds2000by rustyk123,OK I wanted to share my experience with the update with everyone as a warning to be carefully and decide if it is worth it. Mine had some small issues so I decide to try the update. The problem went away, but i noticed to phone was not working the same as it use to, So I went back to 9A405.
I use to be able to play iPod function over bluetooth for 2 hours and stream pandora over wifi for 6 hours and a few messages and call mixed in there and at the end of the day, it would be between 60 - 75%. Now my phone gets 2 hours of iPod over bluetooth and when I get home it will be >10%. I have gone and disabled all battery draining services on my phone now and still just as bad.
My Phone loose service randomly for a few seconds a few times a day. It also will disconnect from the towers and the only way to connect again is to either restart or turn airplane mode on then off.
My phone sometimes thinks there is a dock audio connect plugged in randomly. Now it will only play the 2nd half of notification sounds.
The phone does not stay off. If I try to turn it off, it will turn right back on.
I know this is not the normal issues people experience after this update, but be aware the are problems with this update and they do not affect everyone.
