Where to buy iDVD

Someone explain what I am seeing......

-- First, at this web page:

http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_mac/family/macbook_pro

I read "Every Mac comes with the world’s most advanced operating system, as well as iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand..."

-- Second, at this page:

http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC623Z/A/iLife-11?fnode=MTY1NDAzOA#overview

"What's in the Box

DVD containing iPhoto '11, iMovie '11, GarageBand '11, iWeb (v3.0.2), iDVD (v7.1)

If the new Mac includes iPhoto, iMovie, and GarageBand only, one would want to buy iDVD to fill out the missing hole. I'll pass on iWeb.

This leads me to assume one must buy iDVD separately after buying a new Mac. OK, fine, times are tough all around.

Next, I click App Store on the Dock, and type "iDVD" in the search upper right.

Result: No iDVD. Only two items -- a "tutorial" called "MPVs iDVD '11: Core iDVD '11" price $19.99, and another "tutorial" called "Tutor for iDVD" price $4.99.

Where is the hidden iDVD for sale? App Store or store.apple.com?

iWeb and iDVD have been discontinued by Apple so that's why6 the first link you posted does not include them.

However, the online Apple Store still has copies of the boxed version of iLife 11 which does include iWeb and iDVD - your second link. Once those supplies run out iLife 11 will only be available at resellers like eBay or Amazon.com.

If you need a copy of iDVD then purchase it thru the online Apple store before they run out.

Old Toad:

"If you need a copy of iDVD then purchase it thru the online Apple store before they run out." Does "it" mean the entire iLife package or iDVD???? That's the question I am asking EXACTLY: how to buy one-fifth of iLife '11 (iDVD) since I already have three-fifths. Maybe you are saying "Apple no longer sells iDVD alone."

(I hope I am using the cotrrect "Reply" button. Someone scolded me once for clicking the reply at my own post. Kinda makes one wonder why the reply at my own post is even there.)

This is open to any and all, if anyone knows the answer: What software is Apple providing for burning DVDs, with menu and chapters, from home movies?

You want to purchase the iLife 11 package. iDVD is not available anywhere except in that package.

A user reported that Apple told him that it was moving to a diskless enviroment, both with systems and applications. Thus the dropping of iDVD and the App Store. Also someone else reported that there were some legal issues with iDVD that caused Apple to drop it. We'll probably never know,

That report is false.

There are no legal issues with iDVD.

iDVD was discontinued because it is no longer needed. If you want to store a movie, store it on Apple's servers. If you want to purchase a movie, buy it from iTunes.

You no longer need physical media. Just purchased everything on iTunes.

Hi

You no longer need physical media. Just purchased everything on iTunes.

How I whish it was true.

All people has a Mac.

My child-hood is just to be downloaded from iTunes. etc

I guess that the DVD users today - still is a 10 potential or much more to the Mac owners. So I still will need to distribute my "Master pieces" on DVDs and most probably I'm not alone 😉
