After reading all the discussions I have decided the fault lies with the new ios 5 and until Apple comes up with a fix I will not resolve it. I also read in these discussions about problems with Audiobooks not showing up as audiobooks in itunes but as music. As an audiobook reader here is what I have discovered: I have an audible.com acct and so far I have noticed no change when I purchase and download a book from that site. The problem comes when I use Overdrive Media which uses DRM and WMA format. These show up in itunes but not in my ipod which means I can only listen to them on my pc or laptop.
Have you updated your OverDrive app? It was revised five days ago to be compatible with iOS 5. Also see:
Thanks for the tip IIIaass. Did that and several more but my ipod still won't sync automatically with itunes. I can now however download books from OMC after trying all of the suggestions from this discussion group. The end result being that I will stick with Audible as that seems to be the only site unaffected by this upgrade.
open Itunes and try manually dragging and dropping your audio books to your ipod touch.
