how do I update ipad apps using itunes on my computer?

I keep getting told I have to use itunes on the computer or wifi to download large updates for my ipad apps. I don't have wifi. I tried using itunes for the first time today, but can't figure out how it's supposed to work for updates. I go to my divice in itunes, then to apps, find the app I want, and can do nothing because it indicates it's already downloaded. And yet my app store on the ipad indicates I don't have the update. Whussup? How do I use Itunes to get an app update?

You first need to download the app onto your computer's iTunes before you can try syncing/copying it to the iPad. If the app is already on your iTunes then you can check whether any updates are available by going to the Apps section on the left-hand side of iTunes under Library (not under the iPad 'device') and then on the right-hand side clicking the 'Check For Updates' at the bottom of the window. If the app isn't on your computer then you can re-download it for free : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2519

You can then try re-syncing the updated app to the iPad, or try dragging the app from that Apps screen over and onto the iPad 'device'.
