Banding with integrated GPU, but not with discrete (MBP 2011)

Hi,

When viewing this test image ( http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/gradient.php ) with the integrated (Intel HD 3000) GPU running I see banding, whereas there is no banding at all if the discrete (AMD Radeon HD 6750M) GPU is rendering. This is the same in both Safari and Chrome.

Why is it that the integrated GPU cannot render the image without banding?

Thanks,

T

Because integrated graphics s*ck. Allows PC makers (including Apple) to reduce hardware costs, increase margins and give "it's just good enough" crap in return. Just like cheap shiny screens that reflect everything imaginable.

If one is going to buy a integrated graphics only Mac, they would be better off just getting a $400-$500 Windows PC instead of paying 2-3x more for a Mac of the same caliber.

The only thing Apple makes that's is a worst value for the money is a iPad, one could buy a decent laptop for it's price.

The upper end Mac laptop line with anti-glare screens is a nice machine for the money though. 🙂

13" MBP only integrated = cinebnech score 11

15" 2.0 Ghz MBP integrated w/light discrete 18

15" 2.2 Ghz MBP integrated w/strong discrete 30
