iPad Music app - Playing by Artist stops after one album

Anyone else seeing this?

Open the Music app.

Tap Artist at the bottom.

Select an artist with more than one album.

Play any song.

After the last song on that album, the music stops. It will not switch to another album. It does not play all albums.

Yes, that will happen if you click on a song to play. If you simply select Play (the ">" icon) it will play all the songs in all the artist albums. This, of course, may not be possible if you were previously playing a song.

Won't work if a song is already playing and you choose another artist. When you press the play button the original song, not from the artist's list, will start playing again. You literally have to close the music app and reopen it to achieve the once simple task of playing all songs by an artist. In order to achieve the "one button" ability of playing all the songs from one artist like in iOS 4, you have to perform a holy miracle now. The "Music" app is riddled with so many bugs and problems that it is n't even funny. Apparently the iPhone Music app is completely different from the iPad Music app.

So many things that were fixed in iOS 4 are now back to non-functional in iOS5 Music.

It will take 2-3 updates from Apple to fix this application.

That's not what I did.

If by miracle, you mean...

Tap Artist.

Select an artist.

Press Play.

then you are correct.

That workaround is not so good. If you have any song playing when you select another artist (which is usually the case) you do not have the capability to stop that song and play the new artist. Pressing Play simply restarts the song that was playing. Even terminating the Music App and restarting it does not change this.

The only way to work around this is to create a Playlist of all the Artists songs. You can then select that Playlist and tap the first song to play all the Artist's songs.

Unfortunately there's no way around the fact that the current music player is a significant regression from the previous player. I'm not sure what Apple was thinking when they came out with this.

Here's a workaround that has solved the issue for me. Once you get to the artist page (listing of tracks next to album covers), if the progess bar at the top is not blank, tap the back arrow until it is. Turn Shuffle on. Press play. It will now play all tracks regardless of album.

The key is to have a blank progress bar at the top. If you select a track, it will only play that album.
