mac mini not booting up with 8GB memory after 10.7.2 update

I'm having the same issue; though, not exactly through the same scenario. I just bought 8gb of ram for my late 2009 mini which has 10.7.2. I believe I have the latest firmware, and everything I've read about it says it can use 8gb, but when I took it to be installed the tech was having the exact same issue. One 4gb stick would work in the top slot but as soon as the other 4gb stick was added to the bottom slot, no luck. Each stick was working on their own so they seem to be fine individually. The tech put the original 2gb sticks back in and no issues.

I was thinking I might have a firmware issue since orginally the max was 4gb but the firmware updater said I was up to date. I'm glad I'm not the only one with this issue. I hope it's a simple fix because I need that memory upgrade asap.

Same issue here with an iMac, had 4GB (2x2) of Corsair RAM installed a while ago, after the 10.7.2 update it chimes, the screen turns on grey and it beeps twice at first then 3 times, 3 times 3times etc

either stick on their own in wither slot and the system boots, on their own it fails

the update must be doing some parity test or something for the RAM, but now leaves me with a crippled iMac 😟

I was having the same issue with corsair--Mini was only seeing one bank or I got the chimes. After opening and closing a million times to try different configurations--which made me nervous because those clips to keep in the memory seem fragile--I finally realized it was always the top bank that was missing. One really must push hard to get the stick seated correctly.

I have been installing my own memory upgrades since I started getting macs back in the early 90's, and I have never had difficulties like this before--it's always been "pop in and off you go?". Oh well. Best of luck with yours.

yes.. i bought my mac mini last april (before the new mac mini w/o dvd drive has been released).. i also bought a memory 4GB Kingston x 2 units. after installation my mac mini works fine with 8GB ram for a few months.. and then.. i remember after update the os to 10.6.8... one day.. it's beeping.. one beep, 3 beep.. i need to reboot for 3-4 times to make it okay... and can continue to use my mac mini.. but.. booting for a few times isn't happy right?

i pull out one of the memory.. my mac mini works fine with 4GB.. and then i put the original memory 1GB.. to make it 5GB.. always fine.. so.. 8GB is a problem with version of OS? how to solve this issue?? please help...

I have same issue. I have a new macmini and I install 2 bank of 4gb memory (total 8GB).

The system (10,7,2) see only BANK 0 with 4GB, bank 1 is empty! I tried swapping the ram but the problem still remains on theBANK 1

After the 10.7.2 update, I installed 8GB (2 x 4GB sticks) RAM into my mid 2010 mac mini as well. It will boot, but it freezes at the apple screen. I took out one of the 4GB sticks and put in the original 1GB in the top bank to get a total of 5GB and it would boot correctly. So I guess the issue is that it won't accept over 5/6GB wit this new update.

I have upgraded my 2011 Macbook Pro and my 2011 Mini Server

to 8 gig with Corsair RAM and have had no issues

(CMSA8GX3M2A1333C9). What brand RAM was used?

There have been issues in the past with some RAM

brands.

Something to try is a PRAM reset with the 8 gig installed.

Also, make sure the Minis are booting into 64 bit mode.

Open Applications->Utilities->System Information

On the left side click the software heading. There should be a line

64-bit Kernel and Extensions: Yes

This should be the default for 2010 and 2011, but something could

have got hosed.
