I kept getting authentication errors for my .mac iCloud account in Oulook 2011 on my iMac i7 for the past few weeks (since late November 2011). However, Outlook 2011 on my MacBook Air worked perfectly, even though all the Outlook settings were exactly the same on both computers.

I tried all the settings proposed by many support groups, including Apple's official settings (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864). I even called Microsoft, and they said I had to call Apple, since they were the source of the problem.

What worked for me was simply changing my password for iCloud as NOT-MEE suggested. My password was iCloud compliant to begin with, but changing it allowed Outlook 2011 to work on my iMac. Hopefully this will help others still experiencing problems with their iCloud accounts and Outlook 2011.
