Pages document numbering gone wrong

I have several documents on my iPad created with Pages. They have multiple pages and are numbered. The first page shows correct as 1. The others all have a 7 or 8 digit number that makes no sense. I deleted the page number at the footer section at document setup. The document appears with no page numbers. I returned to document setup and added page numbers at document set up--the same incorrect numbers appear. All of these documents were created before the iOS and Pages update. Any documents created after these updates have page numbers that are correct. Anyone know how I can restore the correct page numbering to the older documents? Thanks!

I just posted a similar problem about negative page numbering.

Your question seems to have solved the problem for me. You stated that the problem documents were created before the iOS and Pages updates. Eureka! The solution is obvious - COPY THE OLDER DOCUMENT AND PASTE IT INTO A NEW ONE CREATED WITH THE NEW IOS AND PAGES. Taaa Daa! It worked!

I added more text to the front of the document (which I thought caused my problem), and the numbering seemed to remain good.

Of course, if you have MANY documents like this, it's not going to be fun to copy each document. Don't forget to temporarily rename the new copies so you can tell which is which.
