Iphone 4s Takes Pictures Upside-Down???

My iphone 4s takes pictures upside down even if I hold the phone upright (home screen on the bottom). Is it just a glitch in the phone or can I do something to fix it??

Has anyone else had this issue??

iPhone 4, iOS 5

I'm pretty sure that is just one of trillions of glitches, as my own **** experience With faulty Apple equipment continues... if you try to get hep you'll be left very dissatisfied and frustrated and maybe 1-2 hours on hold at the help desk.

Ohhhh, maybe that's why they have these forums, so those that are denied support have a hope to get help here. I'm thinking you're never going to get anything but a headache. :( Apple doesn't care, why do they call it 'Apple Care?'

Dear jlbmacuser,

please stop defending Apple, changes in technology are normal and people has to get used to them. EXIF is an standard and its great using it on iPhone OS. But it has to be developed in the right way.

Just try to show us a workaround to re-orient videos without losing quality using a non-professional and free application. But, what the ****!, If I took my video holding my phone upright as adverted, why do I have to post-proccess it??

Such number of people sad with this feature can't be wrong.

Regards.

You make a really good point. I do think a majority of users, though, still use the camera with home button on the right, or volume buttons down. One way or another a large number of people will have orientation issues until the photo s/w catches up.

I thought I got through to you for a split second then I read the rest of your reply (to me).

You're either being facetious or you just don't get it....

Let's for arguments sake pretend that ALL 'photo s/w' HAVE now caught up. This does NOT fix the issue of the iphones camera being upside down when held in it's upright position, and therefore skewing the exif data, up is down, down is up, left is right etc.

And the most important point of all - can you guest what I'm about to say? - EXIF does not support video - which I'm sure you know by now becuase you still haven't provided any standards which support it as I've requested of you.

So? The camera is still upside down. Apple still advertise it the opposite way. Just 'cause you thunk it doesn't make it right.

This is sloppy. Apple don't do sloppy so I'm amazed it's not fixed yet. The more this goes on, the more (bad) coverage it's gonna get (there's over 40,000 views here already!). Apple don't like bad coverage.

Apr 16, 2012 1:10 AM in response to mfarqwa

I agree with everyting you say but i have to say Apple do sloppy, apple do very very sloppy and for someone who purchased a 4s for thr first Iphone im suprised that everyone lets them get away with it..

Just a couple of things iv notice that normally are standard on every other phone..

1 Photos and video upside down.

2 No contact pictures in contact list only in indvidual contact

3 Cannot move photos into individual folders(how bad is that)

4 Extremly limited database of cities for world clock

5 No places of interest in Maps application

6 Cannot add attachments through mail app

7 Cannot save any other attachments apart from image

8 Cannot install a program from any other place apart from the Apple owned store

I would really like to know Apple's way of thinking for these, to not be able to move pictures to folders is an absolute disgrace

And the list goes on and on..but i wont hijack the post..

Can somebody please tell me what i gotta do to get videos showing correctly that were taken in portrait mode..

Apr 16, 2012 7:19 AM in response to Naptownzballa

OK, I cannot save my changes to get the photos the right way up either. I dont want photoshop or any other program - I am happy with my basic windows pictures which i view and edit in windows media player.

It seems that this has alot to do with the face recognition thing.

So I have experimented with my iphone 4s, so I can AVOID these disappointments. I just want to take them the right way (whether it really be right or wrong or Apple's fault, or whatever the whys and wherefores and technical explanations - what sytem recognises what - I dont care) So I have found out the following, so a dumb blonde like me just needs to remember:

-Lens flipped inward:

If you take a photo of your face by flipping the lens button you need to have the volume buttons UP.

If you were to take a photo this way which is not of anyone's face (unlikely but...) you CAN edit it and save it!

-Lens outward:

Photos taken in normal view - eg outwards lens, can be ediited and saved HOWEVER they are taken (vertical or horizontal, upside down)... UNLESS it is a person's face!!! So if you have taken a vertical shot including a person's face it cant be saved when edited they just remain sideways. (You could make them face the other way - this works!)

SO take photos of faces THE CORRECT WAY UP. Volume buttons down for outward and up for inward.

Try it yourself - and if you are on your own, you can practise the different ways by taking a photo of a face on your screen.

In my experiment I have also found NO difference to the above, whether you use the volume button to take the photo or the one on the screen.

VIDEOS:

Flipped lens - the same as above - volume buttons up.

Outward lens - Volume buttons down.

Let me know what you think. This is my first ever post.

arrghhhhhh

this is getting stupid now, i also tried taking pictures of face using volume up/volume buttons down and portrait and they are stilll upside down with buttons up, 90 degree left in portrait and normal with buttons down.

But i cannot rotate then save i get error problem with properties when using windows photo viewer..

This is really stupid

Fricking ridiculous is what it is. Regardless of whether it is the newer way of doing things or not. Apple is very capable of making this work correctly for all of us. We shouldn't have to be on here even having this discussion. I have told everyone who asks me, if the camera is important to you and you don't own a Mac computer do NOT get the iPhone 4S.

Apr 23, 2012 10:27 AM in response to Naptownzballa

It seems to me that the camera and associated software is just complelty useless and whatever processing it doesnt work, even if you take a picture using the front camera then it is mirrored when it comes out not the true picture,

try taking a picture and puttng you finger on the left eye, then when the picture comes out it is on the right eye!!

Don't be silly. Take a few photos, look at them on the camera roll, and think really hard. The picture of yourself when you are looking at yourself in the screen is reversed, as seeing anything other than what you normally see in a mirror would freak you out. The photo as taken is just fine.

Do you really believe Apple would be selling millions of iPhones with cameras that don't know left from right?

Apr 24, 2012 7:01 AM in response to Naptownzballa

Same here! I thought it was something with my phone. It's so annoying on the recipient's end, it makes sending photos from the phone almost useless. Many people who use computers strictly for email and web don't always know how to manipulate (rotate) images. I have found Picasa to be the easiest to use, but even for some inexperienced users it's not easy. This does not happen from my BlackBerry or Android phone.

Apple on Tuesday announced record first-quarter revenue on the back of soaring iPhone sales, with an assist from the iPad. During an earnings call with Wall Street analysts and reporters, Apple said it had sold 35.1 million iPhones during the quarter, an increase of 88% from the same period a year ago,...

I wonder how many of those 35.1 million (or any of the millions still in circulation) know that they're taking pictures and video upside down? If 44.5 thousand (at time of writing) have viewed this thread I can make a pretty simple assumption...

And a ridiculous one. 44.5K people have not viewed this thread. This thread has been viewed 44.5K times. You have posted around 15 posts on here in the last three weeks or so, as have others. For each of your posts you have viewed the thread to see something to respond to, and then viewed many more times to see what response you got. You assumption is a nonsense. I very much doubt that more than a few hundred people have accessed this thread, out of not 35.1 million iPhones that were sold in the last quarter, but the very much greater number that have been sold in total. This thread is statistically totally insignificant.

my bad. I thought they were unique visits 'cause pressing refresh on my iPhone doesn't change the count, but i just noticed it does on my Android tablet. So I'll give you that, BUT, having said that, it only makes my point stronger because therefore even more people are unaware that they're taking photos and video upside down!

And btw, I did mention the millions of iPhones already in circulation on top of the recent 35 mill to emphasise how many ppl are unaware, so the more insignificant this thread is, the stronger my point.
