Iphone 4s Takes Pictures Upside-Down???

My iphone 4s takes pictures upside down even if I hold the phone upright (home screen on the bottom). Is it just a glitch in the phone or can I do something to fix it??

Has anyone else had this issue??

iPhone 4, iOS 5

I'm pretty sure that is just one of trillions of glitches, as my own **** experience With faulty Apple equipment continues... if you try to get hep you'll be left very dissatisfied and frustrated and maybe 1-2 hours on hold at the help desk.

Ohhhh, maybe that's why they have these forums, so those that are denied support have a hope to get help here. I'm thinking you're never going to get anything but a headache. :( Apple doesn't care, why do they call it 'Apple Care?'

Was thinking of going in for iphone 4s after seeing that this video upside down feature coming on and off in my daughter's Galaxy. Now these reports of iphone 4s too having this problem is making me wary.

Assuming I go in for iphone 4s, will this problem persist even after the footage is imported into FCPX for editing?

Would like to know from existing iphone 4s owners specifically.

As already mentioned, It's not an iP4s specific issue. The internal camera on all ip's was designed to be 'upright' when the volume buttons are on the bottom. Now that they're advertising holding it the other way, everything is upside down. Until this is 'fixed' it will ALWAYS happen.

Frankly I think you are one of those Apple users with an attitude because Microsoft based PCs are better. First to start off, "HELLO APPLE, The flash should be above the lens, this is according to every film manufacturer in the world". FYI I am one of those people who thinks the screen touch button is more stable for taking pictures. Whenever I try using the volume button my pictures come out blurry.

Like another person said, if the video screen shows a picture right side up then the video should be right side up. I may be a PC user but I have an open mind. Apple is only damed if they do or damed if they don't when they do stupid things like iTunes. iTunes is the worst software application IN THE WORLD. With Windows Explorer you have to click Accept or OK to delete a file once you select and hit Delete. With iTunes all you need to do is plug in your device to delete a file. I don't know how many people because I lost count have complained to me because all their files or some of their files were deleted by iTunes.

Apple doesn't have a majority share of the "PC World" because they were cheated. They don't have it because THEY SUCK. They want to limit other companies from making peripherals and then they wonder why people don't buy them. $200 dollars for a Wireless Router, that is BS. You can get a PC Wireless Router for $50. Apple should do the math then maybe they won't have an attitude.

Apple did do the math, and found themselves one of the richest companies in the world. Nobody is forcing you to buy Apple. My desktop, laptop, iPad and iPhone work just fine with a bog standard Netgear router. The Mac Pro is happy driving three non-Apple screens via two non-Apple video cards. Data held on four non-Apple disk drives. But Apple still provides the soul.... 🙂

Hello to you. I had unwittingly stumbled into your thread. I am seriously considering this option of having a mobile which can shoot 1080 HD video. My daughter has with her a Samsung's Galaxy II and I first observed that it's video playback was having this upsetting issue of playing in upside manner.

I do not know whether this serious and unacceptable functioning will continue when the video is imported and edited upon in FCPX.

When I then saw your thread related to iphone 4s, I was startled.

You have encountered this problem way back in October 2011 and it seems that there has been no acceptable fix to this problem. Am I right? Have you as yet found any solution to this problem?

This whole camera problem is really really getting annoying, i was on vide chat with Skype and turns out if hold it in portrait then you appear 90 degrees to the right, hold it with the home button to the right then you are upside down and hold it with teh home button to the left and it is fine..

So now we are faced with taking pictures with the home button to the right and skype chats with home button to the left, just shouldnt be like this for such a high end phone, id love to just take the phone back and be finished with it..

This is a weird one. I ran into this twice now. Once with a video from an ipad and once with some photos and videos I took from my iphone. The symptom is everything looks correct on the device and on my iMac. I then copy the files over to windows and some of the times are inverted. Obviously photos are easy to rotate but videos are still not as trivial. It seems to only be with Windows 7 based image or video viewing. When I looks at the images/videos in Abobe Bridge, everything looks correct. When the photo is opened in Photoshop it shows it as being dirty (needing to be saved). If you save it then the file shows correctly in Explorer. If this was the old days of PPC based Macs I would think it would be something like that. But this is a little strange. I think next time I'll just take my normal camera rather than rely soly on the iphone.

I have this same problem. When I take the photo it appears correctly oriented in the screen, but when I view the stored photo on my iPhone or any other device it appears upside down.

I found that if I reboot my phone it returns to the correct orientation, at least temporarily.

It is annoying, and I believe it is an Apple issue to fix...

Here is a link of what CNET has to say about it. Pretty much the same info as here but it points out some photo viewers that do show the pic right side up, like Picasa:

Apple should make it a seamless, user friendly operation and not make us (especially less tech savvy users) use a clunky, unintuitive work-around. This solution also causes your finger block the lens so you always have to look out for that too.

This is outrageous. It would be one thing if it showed on the phone upside down, but folks are seeing it correctly on their phone and assuming it is fine. Also, one nice thing with my 4S is that you can use the top volume button as a shutter button. This reduces shake and allows you more control. Unfortunately, the most ergonomic position for this--with the button on the top right like on a regular camera--is the "wrong" position, and results in upside down pics. This is a simple tagging issue, an should have been fixed by now.

You are right, but the difference with a Blackberry is that it is obvious how you take a picture (with the keys at the bottom), the big beef here is that no1 Apple made a whole ad campaign on being able to use the volume buttons to take a picture and if you do they are 180 degrees upside down and no2 if you take a picture in the natural postion the same as a blackberry with the home button at the bottom they are also not right either
