Q: Iphone 4s Takes Pictures Upside-Down???

My iphone 4s takes pictures upside down even if I hold the phone upright (home screen on the bottom). Is it just a glitch in the phone or can I do something to fix it??

Has anyone else had this issue??

iPhone 4, iOS 5

did you not use the stock iphone camera before it became available on the lock screen?

Um yes I did. That's why I appreciate the lock screen access sooooooo much. You obviously use your phone differently than me. I use mine for work so have my phone locked with a pin. It actually takes me more than 3 secs to get in the old way because I have a lock code to type in.

Wow!! Just took 3 photos with my camera but 'gave in' and took all 3 with the volume buttons on the bottom.

When transferring the pics to my win 7 comp, all three show up upright, as expected, in Micro$oft Office Picture Manager.

But when opening them in Photoshop CS5 the 2nd & 3rd photos came out upright, as expected, but the 1st one came out sideways as if I took the pic with the home button at the bottom!?!?

    I give up!!

If the 3rd party app "Camera +" cannot 'hook' itself into the OS as the native camera app - then it is not a solution, not even close.  The camera + app must be available from the lock screen, and it must be available to any app that needs API use of the phone camera - otherwise it is useless for the majority of people.

The images display themselves upside down in a number of forums, not just Windows.  When the pics are uploaded to image hosters like Tinypic, they will be upside down.  When the pics are used on eBay, they display normally on eBay full website but display upside down on eBay mobile - even eBay mobile on the iPhone - how ironic is that?

This is an assinine experience. Apple is solely to blame.   As the hardware mfg and the software developer, they have complete control over the user experience and this is the experience they have determined you will live with. You will be happy about it, or you are just a dolt, dumb-A Windows user. So start getting happy, or start loving Android.

If you download the free Ustream Broadcaster app and record video via the app, and you hold the camera in it's upright position, ie volume buttons up, it records upside down.

The only way to record 'upright' is to hold it with the volume buttons lower left (home button to the right). The on screen display also stays in this position no matter how you hold the phone, therefore showing you which way you're meant to hold the camera (even though the picture turns around with the phone always displaying upright - but recording upside down or sideways if not held in line with the onscreen display).

Why?... because that's the iphones upright position and always has been and because there is no exif for video, which I'm sure you all know by now.

There is an easy solution using google picasa if you are uploading pictures to PC. Please check out my post from Jan 21st. I have not used it in a while so not sure if the solution still works but its worth a try. I fixed 500 photos in 30 seconds. Won't work on videos though.

I'm beyond frustrated. For a $600 phone this is ridiculous!

First time I own an iPhone, and had NO IDEA this was an issue. For me this is a huge problem. I use almost all my camera pics on my blog and FB fan page and they are uploading sideways.

I take the pic, home button down, normall view. it looks fine. Upload it to my PC, looks fine. Upload it to a photo editing program, edit the pic, and save it, so now it's a whole new pic really, upload it to my blog, looks fine. See it on an iPad..it's sideways..or an iPhone..its sideways..STILL

Or, edit the pic and upload to my FB fan page..sideways..so frustrating for such an expensive phone. I really should have stuck to an android...
