Did you update your OSX to 10.7.2 ?
Have you updated your mac to 10.7.2? This software update adds the iCloud preference pane (along with other items). If you are already running lion, open software update using the apple menu in the top left corner and then install the mac os x update. If you are on a previous version of mac os x, download lion from the app store (you will need to buy and install snow leopard first if you don't have it already).
Can't update to 10.7.2. The old MacBook Pro doesn't have the Intel core 2 duo processor.
If you can't update to 10.7.2, the icloud preference pane will not appear. iCloud requires 10.7.2 or later.
I am also having the same problem, except that I have updated to 10.7.2 on OS X Lion. I'm not seeing the iCloud option in the System Preferences. I am seeing MobileMe still. Any idea of how to fix this?
MobileMe will not disapper. Instead you will see both iCloud and MobileMe. iCloud should be the first pane in the internet and services section. First, make sure you have 10.7.2 without a doubt. Go to >about this mac and then under the apple logo you should see Version 10.7.2. Next, open system preferences and search for icloud if you don't see it or go to view>customize. A bunch of preferences that are hidden (if you have hidden preferences) will show up and if icloud appears put a check in the box next to it to make sure it stays there.
I have just checked I am on 10.7.2 and done the other things you said. No luck though and iCloud is nowhere to be seen. When I click on 'Mail, Contacts & Calendars' in the System Preferences menu I see 'iCloud' up at the top there allowing me to select what I want to sync.
Why am I not seeing it on the System Preferences menu like I should? Very strange..

No not that.
Try: Open System Preferences. In System Preferences Menu (the one at the top) Tap View > Show All Preferences. Is iCloud there?
Several people who were signed up as Developers and had the beta version of 10.7.2 have found that it doesn't include the iCloud Prefs Pane, and to make matters worse won't allow a Software Update upgrade to 10.7.2 (which is a later build version).
This shouldn't be a problem unless you illegally downloaded the builds from a torrent site. Developers have access to the final versions after they are released along with software that will allow them to upgrade even though they are on a beta version. Additionally, the last few builds included the iCloud pane according to the rumor sites.
