Camera Roll Limit?

Is there a limit to the amount of photos you can keep on the iPhone?

My wife has a 32GB iPhone 4 with about 20GB free but experienced an issue today.

The iPhone had about 1,400 photos on it. When attempting to go into the camera roll it crashed back to the springboard. When plugging into a PC it no longer showed up under My Computer so we could not delete or access the photos from there as usual.

I had to restore from iCloud and delete most of the photos as iCloud restored them to resolve the issue.

I know my wife should copy the photos off the phone every now and then to keep the number down but would of thought the phone could handle it with so much storage free.

As we could not access the camera roll and the phone stopped showing up in My Computer there was no easy way to remove photos to resolve this issue. Surely if there is a limit it should stop saving photos and not cause this issue.

For the camera roll, not that I'm aware of...I've seen iPhones with thousands of photos in the camera roll. However, as you've seen, this "can" lead to problems. Fact is, the iPhone camera roll is designed for short-term storage only. To prevent problems, photos should be imported/deleted from the camera roll on a regular basis.
