If I buy a factory unlocked iphone 4s from USA, will it work on Indian GSM networks without any problem?
I mean, without having to unlock them illegally.

It will work just fine. Officially unlocked US iPhones won't be available until November. You do realize your warranty & service will only be valid in the US. You will not get warranty support in India.

Not on an officially unlocked iPhone using an Indian sim.

If you buy a phone in the US and take it to India, you will not be able to get it serviced if it needs it.
Save yourself the headaches and just buy one in India. And before you tell me it's too expensive, it is roughly the same price as an unlocked phone in the U.S. once the currency conversions are done. The $199 price you see advertised here is for a LOCKED phone with a 2 year contract.

In the U.S., they will start at $649 for the 16GB, $749 and $849 for the 32 and 64GB models respectively. The currency conversion isn't exact, but it should be close, plus any taxes and tarrifs of course.
Well, I don't know about India, but in Mexico the apple store price for the 16Gb is $11,500 MXP ( $884 USD ) !!!!!!! So, please don't tell me that is about the same.....

Just ask if they are going to provide you with service to cover your warranty. The phone/email/web service I'm sure you can get, the repairs is the only thing that could affect you... but if you travel to the US a lot then is not a problem.

I have bought the unlocked iPhone 4S from USA through a dealer who got it from apple store. I brought this phone to India and now trying using it on every sim but this factory unlocked is not working. I can see the service provider name on the task bar but with no signal.
Don't understand what to do!

Is factory unlocked 4s out in US? It was supposed to be in November. If it is a factory unlocked piece then you should not have any problem. Check if you have cut the sim properly or not.

Where did you get the iphone 4S factory unlocked in U.S? It's not even November and it's not even out yet. Also how do you know that you bought an unlocked iphone 4S? The dealer may have gotten from the apple store as a locked iphone. If I were you, if you still have the dealer's contacts, I'd e-mail that dealer or contact that dealer and find out about it. Clearly it's a locked iphone you bought.
Dear friend it is clearly the unlocked iPhone 4S and we got it right from US in Ney York , Oregon.
Me and my friend bought two fones and the other one working fine in India whereas my fone is having a signal strength problem. It shows reliance , airtel and any other service provider name upon inserting card but the signal strength is nil therefore I can't make any call.
IPhone 4s is out and I can even mail you the pic with my service provider name on the task bar if you could email me your address.
The only problem I am getting is no signal bars.
