- Check Safari / Preferences - Extensions. If you have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari to test.

- Try troubleshooting third party add ons > Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues

- If it's not third party plugins causing Safari to hang up, try troubleshooting the Safari .plist file.

Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.Safari.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Desktop.

Quit then relaunch Safari to test. If that helped, move the .plist file to the Trash.

~ (Tilde) character represents your Home folder.

- If that didn't help, try Safari in another user account. Same issues there, log back into your admin account.

Launch Disk Utility (not to verify or repair permissions)

Select the startup disk in the panel on the left then select the First Aid tab.

Click: Verify Disk

If the startup disk needs repairing, follow the instructions for Using Disk Utility to verify or repair disks

You only verified permissions, you did not repair them.

As long as the report ends up with 'Permissions repair complete' then, as far as permissions go, you are fine. You can ignore the various statements in the report:

Permissions you can ignore on 10.5 and 10.6:

http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1448

Using 'should be -rw-r--r-- , they are lrw-r--r--' as an example, you will see the that the permissions are not changed, but the | indicates a different location. This is because an update to Leopard changed the location of a number of system components.

Poster rccharles has provided this description of what it all means:

drwxrwxrwx

d = directory

r = read

w = write

x = executeable program

drwxrwxrwx

| | |

| | all other users not in first two types

| |

| group

|

owner

a little more info

Before the user had read & write. A member of the group had read.

After, only the user had read & write.
