Question mark where moon must be - Weather widget

The loss of that graphic may indicate damage to your Disk Directory. You should run a Disk Utility VERIFY DISK at your earliest opportunity. If there are problems found, you can do a simple repair just by restarting in Safe Mode (hold down Shift at startup) and waiting for it to check the disk and boot up.

More complex problems may require more serious measures.

I have the same issue, just began today. I did a clean install of Lion 10.7.2 on saturday and worked fine untill about an hour or two ago. I did a safe mode boot and did a disc util from recovery mode and no errors found. I suspect it is a problem with the data for the widget. Wonder if anyone else is having these issues, seems new. Any follow up would be great.

Same here. Clean install of 10.7.2 on Friday (21st October, 2011) and this issue has just appeared this evening. Not noticed it before, though I'm not sure whether I have seen this particular weather graphic this week. Changing the location shows that the graphics for other weather conditions work fine, but other locations with the same weather conditons show the question mark...

Don't know what to do. Hate it when things don't work perfectly...

Just checked another of my macs, which was also cleanly installed with 10.7.2 a few days ago, and it displays the same question mark. So...

- The particular disk image of 10.7.2 I burned from an App store download is broken...

...or...

- 10.7.2 is broken...

...or...

- The weather site that the dashboard widget connects to is broken (seems unlikely, as I would have thought the graphics files would be stored locally)...

Ho hum. Let's wait and see.

By the way, if anyone reads this, does your weather widget move, of its own accord, between reboots?

Just checked again and the blue box is gone. Now the Clouds are different then they were last night. In fact when I checked this am the widget changed from night to day mode and that is when the box went away and has remained gone since that time.

I suspect, then, that the problem hasn't been solved at all. As the time/weather has changed in your location, Dashboard is loading a different set of graphic files. I wonder if you can try to find a different location with similar weather to the graphic that was problematic to check whether it still shows the question mark? If you are online right now, you could try Lincoln, UK, which is where I am experiencing the problem...

Yes when I put lincoln, UK in the location I get the blue box and when I put my US city then it goes away. Perhaps wait untill tomorrow and see if it corrects itself. It seems to be a data issue.

Yes, same problem here with 3 different (brand new) Macbook Pros. Any weather graphic with the moon shows as a "?".

It looks like there's a fault in the Lion distribution.

Did anyone report this to Apple support yet?

Same problem here. I have two Lion installed machines, one is mid 2007 iMac and the other is late 2008 aluminum macbook. The macbook has never had this problem, but on the iMac, it always occured since the beginning of Lion installation. I thought this was kind of problem due to the Snow Leopard to Lion update on iMac, which was not the case on the macbook, where I purchased new SSD and clean-installed Lion.

But reading this thread and other similar questions from the community leads that my conjecture was wrong. This must be related to the widget only issue. Hope they could fix it soon. Never experienced this with Snow Leopard or Leopard.

Just download this file and move it to the desktop (this is CRUCIAL), then replace whatever is after the filename (e.g. .txt) with .command, then double-click it.

(P.S. It will not harm your computer in any way. Heck, before you change the name to say .command double click it and see whats inside.)

Sorry about that, Before you double click it, but after you change the name, open terminal and type this "sudo chmod 755 ./desktop/"Run to regain moon.command"

I would like to know how and what this shell script modified in order to correct the problem. Also, do you have any ideas as to what caused the problem in the first place?
