Unable to Create Windows 7 Install Disk

Trying to get Windows 7 up and running on my 2010 MBP. After downloading the Windows 7 .iso and inserting my 4 GB flash drive (which should be large enough), I open up Boot Camp only to see that the option for "Create a Windows 7 Install Disk" is grayed out.

I don't have any DVDs on me, and I don't really feel like wasting gas going out and buying a pack of them just for this while I have a perfectly functional USB flash drive on hand.

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.2)

This works great! Thank you!

I had one small issue though - I have a MBP81. For some reason when I added this as the last string in Info.plist, it didn't work. When I moved my entries to the top of the relevant arrays, it worked. For example:

<key>DARequiredROMVersions</key>

<array>

<string>MBP81.0047.B24</string>

<string>IM41.0055.B08</string>

<string>IM42.0071.B03</string>

<string>IM51.0090.B03</string>

<string>IM52.0090.B03</string>

<string>IM61.0093.B01</string>

<string>MP11.005C.B04</string>

<string>MB11.0061.B03</string>

<string>MBP11.0055.B08</string>

<string>MBP12.0061.B03</string>

<string>MM11.0055.B08</string>

</array>

and

<key>USBBootSupportedModels</key>

<array>

<string>MBP81</string>

<string>IM130</string>

<string>MM50</string>

<string>MP60</string>

<string>MB80</string>

<string>MBP90</string>

<string>MBA40</string>

</array>

Is what made it work for me.

Thanks again!

So I edited the info.plist file as it was instructed (and moved the entries to the top) and everything was going great until while partitioning the harddrive a message came up saying that some files could not be moved. The full body of the message was...

Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again.

I'm not sure what to do next and would really appreciate any help.

Hi aero253,

I was having the SAME problem creating a bootable USB with either my iMac and MacBook Air with no luck, thinking I may need to get an external SuperDrive tomorrow, when I chance upon your post.

Briliiant! Thanks a zillion!!

Never knew such a "simple procedure" will make this work! I really can't believe this.

Again, thanks again, and again! 😁

Insert your Windows installation media. Restart holding down the alt/option key. Select the Windows media you created and then be sure to use the BOOTCAMP partition in the partitions list. You will need to format the partition before Windows can be installed on it.

If you're unable to even get to the installation, I would make sure to format your USB drive completely and start over. Be sure you're using a valid Windows 7 installation medium, as pirated copies aren't validated or even remotely trusted. If you're using anything but a genuine copy of Windows, I'd say that's your problem before resorting to an issue with any other software or hardware.

Also, to clarify, be sure to read the posts beforehand and make sure you've added all of your info.plist entries at the top of the sections mentioned. If you're in compliance and still reach and error, let us know.

Ok, this is what i did:

Edited info.plist as explained.

Created the USB install disk with boot camp.

Copied WindowsSupport Folder into the same USB key.

Started installation with bootcamp; after partitioning is completed it auto restarts.

After restarting I can only see that blank screen.

If I restart again holding down option key, I can see only Macintosh HD and Recovery (but bootcamp partition exists, I can see that form disk utility).

I have an original Windows 7 Professional copy.

You said I need to format BOOTCAMP partition before to install windows: so, after that blank screen, do I have restart into Mac OS (or Recovery) and format BOOTCAMP partition with disk utility? I thought BCA did that...

Thank you for your help!

Matteo
