Audio output to external DAC via USB won't play on 24/96000 setting

Using the Hegel HD2 I should be able to play 24/96000 files. In Audio/Midi setup I can select 24/96000 for output, BUT: iTunes won't play it! The playback won't start. 16/96000 or 24/48000 works. Is it a software and/or hardware problem?

Hmmm, I can't find the specs on yours, but...

Like FireWire, USB 2.0 delivers the bandwidth for 24-bit/96kHz audio resolution throughout the recording and monitoring process.

But unlike Firewire, USB speed is dependent on CPU & Bus speeds, so with no knowledge I'm suspecting your PB is limiting it.
