iPhone 4s losing data connection multiple times/day

It seems about 3-4 times/day, my new iphone 4s will lose data connectivity. The phone will show full bars and the 3G icon appears, but I cannot access a data connection - email continuously loads, safari / facebook app / weather channel app all time out. As soon as I reboot, it works fine. This is getting really really annoying. Anyone else experiencing this or have a fix?? Thinking of returning it.

iPhone 4, iOS 5, iPhone 4s wasn't listed as option..

Really getting hacked off now. Spoke to an O2 guru who just went through the motions (hard reboot, clean sim, try in another phone etc) and in the end said go to your local o2 shop. So just walked into town, went to the o2 shop where they denied all knowledge and weren't particulalrly interested! "Apple dont tell us anything" - whats next?

All the apple shops are heaving with 12 year olds who have no intention or ability of buying anything but just make the place ****!

Carrier not interested !

Is it time for Android ? Iphone 4 was poop (antennagate etc), 4s is no better and now IOS 5 makes it about as useful as a chocolate teapot ! I have spent a lot of money on apple products over the years and recommended them over all competition for years - What do you all think ? If we start bombarding the press who do we email etc ?

I went in yesterday to an Apple store to have them look at my second iphone that is having this problem. They told me it was my carrier but showed them this Forum proving it was not just one carrier. They gave me the run around stating that there are only a hand full of people on that forum bla bla bla. Long story short I litterally walked out of the apple store with my 3rd new phone doing the exact same thing.

So the only common factor that I can think of is the Sim card. That is the one part that has been the same in every phone. Apple does not hand out new SIMs so I am just curious if anyone here has had there SIM changed and if that made a difference. Sprint will not change mine. Yet!

Well there goes that theory. :-( This really *****! My buddies phone works just fine. Of course he bought his when the 4s first hit the shelves. I guess the only thing that it could be is that in certain phones, maybe a newer ones, got bad antennas or something. I just hope this problem gets big enough it hits the media so Apple will look more seriously at it.

I truely believe it has something to do with the email application. I can literally turn this error on and off by adding or removing my work MS Exchange email account from the email application. Whether it has to do with the total number of accounts (my work email would make three total, two without and it works fine) or the number of exchange accounts (two with work, one without) or the type of connection my work exchange account makes, I don't know.

What I do know is that my phone worked great for a couple weeks after restoring the phone as new and adding my two personal email accounts. When I finally added the work exchange account later, it immediately started having the lost data connection problem, and as soon as I removed it, it worked again, and has done so flawlessly for weeks since.

This is strange. For me, I can do a full restore of the OS, start as a new iphone and still have this problem. Yesterday apple replaced my phone again and I walked out of the store with a new phone, not restored from a backup, no email accounts attached, having this same exact issue. Basiaclly the 3G connection works for about 15-20 minutes, then nothing.

That update is not being pushed to ppl who already have 5.0.1 and besides I think this issue is different from the no connection / no sim issue.

Ditto silver dollars.

I have removed all my email accounts and still have the problem. The only forward progress I have made is that when i synced with itunes last night, it worked for an hour or so and then packed up again ! Normally i get less than a minute !

Other things I have tried and failed with:-

1 Disable automatic carrier selection and lock to my carrier

2 Disable I-message

3 Disable facetime

4 Disable Data-roaming

5 remove I cloud account

I'm just trying to think of anything else that may "Hog" the 3g connection. Any Suggestions ?

One thing I have noticed is that often when the connection dies my carriers name does not appear next to the carrier section in settings, yet after turning airplane mode on and off it reappears. Is this a hint?

What Modem firmware is everyone running ? (Settings > General > About) i'm 1.4.00

Spoken to carrier O2 who were very knowledgeable and helpful but could not sort the problem. They also claimed to have no knowledge of it ! Then Spoke to apple who went through the list of things I've already done and told me to get a replacement hand set tomorrow ! They also denied all knowledge ! So either they are playing the corporate game ( which is fine) or, more worryingly they genuinely don't know about it !

I'm posting to support this thread and maybe (but pfft, probably not) get apple to correct this problem. Because it is INDEED a very real problem. Now, it may not affect ALL users, but I was under the impression that apple cares about even just one user. So, please Apple, fix this issue. I am on an iPhone 4S with AT&T running the latest OS. I do have many apps, songs, and videos on my phone, but I already thought that battery loss was the sacrifice there, so I doubt that it's also a loss of data connection. So far my iPhone 4S is the speediest phone I've ever had the pleasure of owning, that sometimes doesn't actually connect speedily to anything, and that can't be a good thing. I look forward to an always there, always reliable connection (as it was with other versions and iPhones), especially when it seems it's on your end of the spectrum to fix.
