Q: iPhone 4s losing data connection multiple times/day

It seems about 3-4 times/day, my new iphone 4s will lose data connectivity. The phone will show full bars and the 3G icon appears, but I cannot access a data connection - email continuously loads, safari / facebook app / weather channel app all time out. As soon as I reboot, it works fine. This is getting really really annoying. Anyone else experiencing this or have a fix?? Thinking of returning it.

iPhone 4, iOS 5, iPhone 4s wasn't listed as option..

I'm happy that I'm not alone on this but it saddens me to see so many with the same problem. I'm currently using a 4S with 6.1.3 firmware. I've been experiencing an almost 00.0Mbps data transfer for the last 3 weeks now. The internet works but almost at Edge speed. I can NOT stream off YouTube, Netflix, etc. Downloading updates for apps is almost impossible. I'm still on the old Unlimited Data plan and that's made me wonder if that was the case. My coworker's 4S has been running fine versus mine. Hardware issue or software issue? Either way, I just want my regular speed back!

@Echo3ToEcho7, I have not had any issues in the past year on my 4S.  I don't know if AT&T has made infrastructure improvements, or iOS updates fixed it, or what, but the problems have gone away. I always strongly urge people to buy AppleCare, it is one of the few warranties that is worth it many times over.  Start by contacting your carrier for support.  If they can't resolve the issue, and they should replace the phone ultimately if they can't, then contact Apple.  There are a very few companies in this world that have as good customer service as Apple.

Same thing here.  I don't recall this happening until I updated to 6.1.3.  I have an iPhone4S.  Just to make sure my wireless router wasn't having glitches, I checked on my iBook; no problems.  If it's just a router issue I have no problem buying one because I've been thinking about getting a router with an external antenna.  I don't want to open the router I have now and make the internal antenna's external.  I'm just too lazy.  ;-)

My iPhone4s is having the same problem, I updated to 6.1.3 and the next day I had problems. Sporadicly dropping 3G signal, phone goes to searching and can remain searching for days and then pop back onto the network. Wifi is working and when 3G works my signal strength is good. I've been told by both apple and verizon that its a hearware issue, just buy a new phone since my warranty has expired.

Given the frequency of the issue in this thread and the associated 3G drop with iOS 6.1.3 update it seems like this is a software problem. I've tried the recommended fixes and they have not worked. Apple please fix this problem.

Not sure if this will help anyone but I am in Spain using Movistar and having same problems as everyone else.  Wifi is fine, when I leave house it says 3g but will not load Safari etc....  Tried EVERYTHING in all the ablve posts.  Finally went to my local shop and checked my data package!  According to the lady in the shop, Movistar have recently upgraded "something" on their system and it makes the whole service much quicker .... BUT you need a much larger data package.  For 10 euros per month I now have 2GB per month, and everything is loading well, WITHOUT wifi switched on. I am going to test when I am out of the house tomorrow and see what happens.  At the moment I have left wifi off .... I will post my progress - hope this helps someone - as I have been pulling my hair out for a week trying to solve this one!

Yeah, like I said before, my problems mostly went away after trading in the first 4S, and I think the issue was either SIM card, or  AT&T network.  In the past 15 months I have had absolutely no issues, and not much different I did.  The past 4 months have been on iOS 7.

So, I definitely advise whoever is having such issues, do not give up, keep on Apple and your carrier to identify and resolve.

I had the same problems too. I used to turn of data connection completely when i connected to wifi or vice versa. Always had issue to connect from wifi back to data. Now i found out the solution for my iphone 4s. I keep wifi and data connection on all the time. I noticed the phone seems to work perfectly fine if i keep wifi and data connection on. There is no problem to connect back to data connection. Since i figured it out my phone has been running in good condition.
