IPad calendar missing "+" button to add appointments.
I have a friend who just got a new iPad 2 but it doesn't have the "+" button in which to add appointments with. Is there something in the settings that needs to be turned on?

If you select the right day first, you will be able to enter new entries in the right window.
+If you select the right day first, you will be able to enter new entries in the right window.+
I have no clue what that means in this instance. I can select any day and still add an event - I can go back to August and add an event and the + sign still appears in the app .... But maybe I am missing something .....
@EDL2 try these simple things - none of which would I hold out hope for - but try them anyway. My reason for doubt is that a number of users have reported the missing + sign in the calendars app and I have not seen a fix yet.
Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
Quit the calendars app and restart. Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus (-) sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. The last thing you can try - if you are using iCloud- go to iCloud.com and sign in. Select the calendar and try to add an event there. You must do this on a computer, BTW, not on the iPad. Then go to the iPad and see if the button appears.
I have an iPad 1, tried everything, including some of the items listed in other replies. Since iOS5 update, I have been unable to add new appointments to Calendar. Tried the "day" option, tried double-tapping day, time in day-week-year options, tried shrinking/expanding day....nothing! I use the Calendar quite often, and there is NO plus sign anywhere in original Calendar app. Btw, Reminders ain't getting it! Thanks for any help.
Sorry for the delay. Thanx for the response. There is "nothing" in the bottom right corner of the app, and there hasn't been since I upgraded to iOS 5. Yes, I have tried pressing and holding on every type of calendar screen. I neglected to indicate this in my original post, but I have pressed and held in every area of the date of the calendar, the time, the event, and the day areas---nothing! The only thing I've been able to do is edit previous appointments in order to create a new one, but, of course, I lose the old appt when I do this.
Are you using iCloud? Have you tried to create an event in your iCloud.com website account?
No, I'm not using iCloud, and I have no current plans to do so. But, are you implying that the lost functionality might be an inherent requirement for use of iCloud? I hope not, because that would GREATLY displease me. As a new apple product user, that sounds a lot like Microsoft methodology.
No - absolutely not. I am not implying that at all.
I was going to suggest creating an event "in the cloud" and then see if the + button shows up on the calendar app. I suggested this to another user as a way to "trick" the calendar app on the iPad into working properly again. I can't even remember what the result was for that user - but it was just a thought.
You are NOT the first person to report this issue with the calendar app. There are other users that have posted on this site with the very same problem as you. There is no reason why the add button should have disappeared with the update. I was merely practicing the old adage - throw up enough stuff against the wall and you hope that something sticks .... If you are familiar with that expression.
Thanx. After 26+ years in the Marine Corps, I'm familiar with a lot of expressions; that's actually one i have previously used on many ocassions. Appreciate the feedback from everyone. But, I'm still concerned about the lost functionality in an app that was working perfectly BEFORE the iOS5 upgrade.
And I am concerned as well. I have an issue with the contacts app - it doesn't make it unusable - but it IS missing a pre update feature. I have syncing issues as well that I NEVER had prior to this update.
It's quite disappointing when you update the iOS and you lose simple features that you previously had - and you know that they were not removed deliberately. An announcement was made that an update is being released very soon. I hope it fixes all of these little issues that a number of us are experiencing.
It turned out to be a simple thing. I managed it by chance. Go to settings...click icloud and enable (on) calendars. The + will appear on the calendar
Thanx for the response. Checked it out in settings, but it indicates that my calendar(s) "will now be merged with iCloud." As I indicated previously, I currently have no desire to use iCloud. BUT, it seems that that is the only way that I can get the "+" functionality back. So, it appears that I'm to forced to do something that I don't wish to do, or download another calendar app that will just do what I want. Thanx again for the info, bit still dissatisfied.
sharathb2, thanks for posting your solution, it worked like a charm! :)
Actually, now that you've turned iCloud on, turn it back off and the + should remain. The + sign disappearing is a glitch that toggling iCloud on and off seems to clear up.
This worked for me
