macbook how to emulate home or end?

I have macbook with snow leopard. In ms word 2008 Go to end document or to top of doc requires "home" or "end" key. Not on macbook keyboard. What to do? how to emulate those keys?

That didn't work. Fn down jumped maybe 20 lines but not to end of document. Maybe it works on a desktop, but not on my Macbook! Any other ideas? I have tried all kinds of other key combinations without success. I think I have to get some way to emulate the Home key and End key. The frustration is that I have about a 10 page doc I am working on & I need to jump around a lot, then go to the end. Unfortunately, MS Word std shortcuts don't have these functions and Customize Keyboard > Edit > GoTo... has no GoToEnd or GoToHome. These functions are nowhere to be found, best I can tell.

The first reply way at the top of this discussion suggested the command up & down. Those didn't work.

I don't have a home or end on macbook white. that's the reason for this whole discussion. I hope to find a work-around, but so far nobody has succeeded in suggesting a working solution. I don't know Apple script, but that may be a way out of this situation.

Well, right here in Safari, it's the Command key that works in combination with the up and down arrow keys which take me to either the top or the bottom of the page.

I don't use Microsoft Office, either, but I would surmise that it would follow the same convention.

So, that would be ⌘ + up arrow to get to the beginning of a document and ⌘ + down arrow to get to the end of a document.

In both Safari and Firefox, fn + left or right and ⌘ + up or down work for home and end.

In TextEdit, Pages, Numbers and Preview, fn + up or down gives page up or down, fn + left or right gives home or end.

In Pages, ⌘ + up or down moves the insertion point to the beginning or end of the document, ⌘ + left or right moves the insertion point to the left or right end of the line. That also works in text fields in Numbers, but otherwise results in an error sound.

I haven't had an opportunity to try in Office yet; the only copy is on my partner's iMac and she's too busy to let me play just yet.

It only takes a little experimenting with the various modifier keys, though, after all.

I am receiving lots of replies that say command +up or down or left or right, & follow ther suggestion with how these work with Text edit & Safari. They don't work with MS Word. Believe me, I have tried all kinds of combinations with Fn, shift, comtrol, option & command.

The closest I have come to my need is Fn+option+up or down. This jumps to the top or bottom of the current section. A workaround I have discovered is to change the docx template by adding a continuous section break at the bottom of the blank page & saving that newly changed template.

It seems that Microsoft for Mac has ignored this valuable shortcut for a Macbook without a home or end key.

Any other ideas are welcomed! If any of you are adept at Apple script, maybe that's a task you'd be up to trying. Program a keyboard shortcut that jumps from anywhere to end or top of document without using a home or end key.

Hi there, I had the same problem as you did and all the suggestions didn't work. This is what worked:

FN+CMD+RIGHT (= CTRL+END) - move to the bottom of the (word) document with an Apple keyboard

FN+CMD+LEFT (=CTRL+HOME) - move to the top of the (word) document with an Apple keyboard

I know it's been three years since you asked that question but for future reference of Word / Apple users, I just thought I'd tell. 🙂

Take care,

Alex
