Her question was about Verizon locking it
To be correct, it was about it being unlocked.
Holly Tran's specifically asked, "My question is:when the contract ends, and I switch carrier, no longer use Verizon, will the iphone 4s still be international sim unlocked?"
You should just quit now.
You messed up. No worries. It happens.
Learn from your mistakes and you'll be a better person for it.
I've just read several posts in this discussion, but have another issue concerning using my Iphone 4S abroad. I just bought a used "Verizon" 4S from ebay vendor. It has a Verizon sim card in it, and shows the carrier as Verizon 15.5. It also shows for Network "Not Available." I took the phone into the Apple Store here in Florida, and the "genius" there took a look at it and told me it had been purchased in the Netherlands, was used on a vodafone account, and has never been used in the U.S. I did not inquire about locked or unlocked. Do you think I need to do anything to get the phone working when I go to Europe?
my vzw 4S was unlocked and worked fine on Telcel in Mexico, so far my only trip. I am heading to Canada and looking to use a HSPA+ network SIM from Bell since they got the best plan for my needs - I suspect the answer is Yes, since I read the chipset supports it, but can anyone confirm the verizon iphone 4s is HSPA+ compatible?
vodaphone is verizons european partner - the sim is proably a vodaphone sim and many european phones come unlocked, but you should call apple, give them the imei to confirm if it is unlocked. or call the carrier you expect to use the phone with and they can tell you. I just chatted with Bell in Canada, gave them my imei and they confirmed my 4s is unlocked. try chatting or calling to confirm - best to know for sure.
