AddressBook Source Sync crashes my MacPro, why?

Since upgrading to Lion (10.7.2) my MacPro is extremely slow. Normally fast (2 x 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon) with 8 GB memory, use it mostly for Aperture 3, Photoshop CS5 and Capture One Pro 6.

The Activity Monitor shows that "AddressBook Source Sync" uses up to 95% of the MacPro CPU. At a moments notice only 2% but mostly 50% - 95%. 5 GB Active System Memory are spent on this alone (Virtual Memory 22.87 GB used by "Address Book Source Sync").

I can not no longer run multiple programs (AddressBook, Mail and Safari - while using Aperture). Anything I do takes 5 - 10 seconds if not more time to respond. Sometimes Aperture hangs, and I have to force quit.

SAFE BOOTING is the only thing that helps - for an hour or so, but come on.... do I have to do this every time I open Aperture, or open more programs at once?

Any advice?

I found a solution elsewhere on the net...

Open address book then select all and export all to a .vcf file

Turn off icloud syncing if it's on

Delete all entries in the Address Book

Quit AB and then reopen it

Turn on icloud syncing for the AB

Took a couple of minutes to complete.

Hope this works for others also. Apparently in the AB to icloud upgrade if there was glitch it tries to make a correction but it just doesn't move past it. This work around gets passed the conversion issue.

Of course all this is dependant on you having all your address in icloud.

It dramatically slowed down the memory usage for me. Great work

I was using sometimes 40 / 60 % chip usage and up to 170 mo of memory just on this.

I originally thought someting was wrong as the Imac was overheating and getting very slow.

Just a note for others who will do this process: the Icloud sync is within the AB preferences, and not in the general Icloud preferences.

Thanks for the solution .
